oil pan gasket?


hey I was thinking about changing that oil pan gasket b/c I still have an oil leak some where. I changed timing chain cover gasket, intake manifold gasket valve cover gaskets.

anyways Is there any specail things I need to know before I do it?

The only thing specaial about the procedure is that is a pain the the ass.

get the one from ford which is a 1pc molded rubber over plastic gasket that is reusable.they are used in 5.0 explorers

+1, the rubber ones are NICE

Have you considered the fact it might be your rear main seal??

I had to pull my engine last winter to do a rear main seal...a lot of work for one little part

i agree with getting the bubber one as well.

the oil pan gasket is a pita to do..

you either have to lift your motor or drop your k member to get to it.

Why did you pull the engine to do a rear main seal? Just to let you know in case there is a next time, it is much easier just to pull the tranny.

Why did you pull the engine to do a rear main seal? Just to let you know in case there is a next time, it is much easier just to pull the tranny.
because i didn't look into it deeply before i did it. it was leaking oil, i took it to a shop that i know really well, they suggest it was the rear main seal and quoted me 1,000 to fix it because they said they would have to pull the engine, i said screw that i'll do it myself and did...

No, I am not saying that what you did was wrong. I was just saying that it is much easier to pull the tranny instead of the engine. Dont take it the wrong way.
