Swap and Build
I have a 94 Mustang 5spd 3.8L. I can't find a 94-04 v8 for a cheap price anywhere near me. Thus, it looks like I am going to have to do a swap.
I don't want any BS. I just want to know everything I am going to need for this swap and what all I am going to have to do. I need a 5.0L of course. I need the computer. Would I need another tranny? I will need an 8.8 rear later. Will I have to mess with the motor mounts? Anything else I am forgetting about? I was also wanting to build the engine some before I drop it in. I want to do as much as I can while the engine is out of the car before I put it in to make it easier on me later and not have to do too much work. I was thinking I should do the upper/lower gt40 intake, heads, cam, LTs, H-Pipe w/ cats(i have to pass echeck), some kind of cat back exhaust, and I was going to get a rebuild kit too while it is out of the car. Anything else that I should be doing while it is out? All the bolt ons and shit I can do later. My expectations for this car is to keep it NA and I want to be able to get this thing running at least 12s. I want to get in the 300+hp range NA. All help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Cradle for the 5.0 and a better tranny if you want to play with it

the point of my post was to have people like you who have done the swap tell me what all I would need for this swap so I can get everything for it and do it in a few days rather than figure everything out as I go and having it take a month. this is my DD so I can't have it in the garage for a month while I do it.but thats nice to know i will not have an issue with echeck

id love to tell you how the swap was done but i didn't do it... i bought it like that but can tell you i still have to 7.5in rear and its fine. but my tranny blew. im not sure if it was the 3.8 tranny or the 5.0 tranny tho. thats all the info i can give sorry i cant help more.

engine harness computer harness fuel pump return system if yours isn't already the complete motor a trans setup of your choice most of the problems you are gonna run into is electrical. as long as you know how to read a schematic and do the proper research it should be fairly easy. but also remember that if you are in an accident and the adjuster shows up and sees that it is not the stock engine they can refuse coverage. it is insurance fraud unless you call them up and tell them that you did the swap. Its not worth the time and trouble sorry I did it once sold the car and bought a v8 instead not only does it have more power but better suspension and no little problems from "making it work" But there you go. to each his own.

Dont forget you'd need to swap in the 8.8" rear axle in place of the 7.5" unit.

you dont have to swap rears but dont plan on it lasting long, same with suspension it will be crap compared to the gt wrong spring rates

I was planning to swap my engine but ppl had told me it would be more convenient if I jsu sold my 3.8 and got me a 5.0 it will be a lot cheaper. but if u are still doin the swap don't forget to get a custom fuel rail.
