CARB OR EFI

TRUE! BUT WITCH ONE IS BETTER AS FAR AS PERFORMANCE, BECAUSE WITH THE EFI YOU HAVE TO DO ALL KINDS OF WORK AND WITH THE CARB YOU GET A 750CFM CARB AND A LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD AND A CAM AND WEEEEEEEEEE!!! IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

EFI all the way.

Why is it people think it is so much work to make horsepower with EFI but not with a carb? I don't get it, do you just throw a carb on and not have to do any work? I've got more hours in tuning my carburetor set up than I can keep track of.

EFI IS THE WAY TO GO. LISTEN TO DARRELL. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ HIS LINKS, THE MAN KNOWS HIS SHIT.

ONCE INSTALLED AND SETUP, EFI IS NOT HARD TO MAINTAIN AND KEEP WORKING SMOOTHLY. CARBS NEED CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT AND TINKERING.

THANK YOU.

Yeah right. People that say this have never tuned a carb or think tuning a carb is as simple as changing jets.

pfffft

they both have their pros and cons. depends on what you are trying to accomplish, what your skill level is, what your expectations are, as well as how big your pocketbook is.

as far as gas mileage, efi does not get "alot better gas mileage". when i made the switch to carb, i lost one single solitary mile per gallon.

i don't recommend that just anybody make the jump to carb. you need to know what you are doing. but for some people, it works better for their situation.

i tried for several months with different tuners to get my car running right. spent thousands of dollars, went through ECUs, chips, tunes, kept maxing out mass air meters and getting bigger ones... and she still bucked, surged, and left me stranded.

then they told me i had gone so far (with an OLD technology) that i needed to upgrade to a FAST type system to manage the electronics. i said screw that.

i spent the money on a carb system instead and now the power is back in my hands. but i will say this with a caveat: i bought a pre-tuned carb from CSU. i didn't just go buy a 750 carb and try to convert it to blow thru. CSU took all my specs and then tuned a blow thru carb just for me. i literally took it out of the box, put it on the car, took it to a dyno and gained 61 rwhp over my last efi dyno pass (the only thing i changed was the carb and intake), and then took it to the track and ran a 10.74 (from my last efi pass of 11.61). and i never changed a setting on the carb from the way CSU shipped it.

this car is still my daily driven car and it is more drivable now than it has been for a long time.

but my husband knows his way around a carb and for me, having a carb is much easier than efi.

the older OBD electronics are good to a certain power level, then you gotta upgrade the whole elctronics system or go carb.

it's a choice, but you gotta be realistic about the decision you make.

If you only lost 1 mpg by switching to carb, your EFI system wasn't tuned properly. As far as these "tuners" raking you thru the coals and giving you the run around, its time to move on. Mike Post and Bob Kurgan are two of the best EFI people around. I know for a fact Mike Post has made over 500 hp with factor Ford EFI systems and at the same time pulled down mid 20s mpg. A trip to either shop is money well spent and they won't give you the run around on things and tell you that you need to purchase a FAST system.

damn skippy my tune was off. i made the decision to cut my losses. i wasn't going to take it to every tuner in three towns, throw my wallet at them, and ask them to make my car run right. i had three tunes by two tuners. that was enough for me. lol
