94 gt/ cobra clone problems...

I have a list of add-ons, and with it a small annoying problems as well...
"Were do I start....
I purchesed the car for a guy in Florida , and he told me it has a 347 cu.in. motor, with Edlebrock performer heads and a "E" 303 cam. It has a gt40 intake with a 70mm throtle body and a 73 C&L mass air meter. I also have 30 pound injectors 1.7 roller rockers MSD billet distributor, MSD6a, and blaster2 coil.
AODE transmission, 355 gears
When I bought it, he told me it just needs to be "TUNED", and I figured easy..no problem.....
I took it to a performance shop in Houston and had a SCT chip installed and tuned...and the problem started!!!
...The car starts good..idles ok(when cold) but if you turn it off, and try to restart it it has a hard time holding a idle when put into gear...
..Also when I had it tuned , the guy tuneing the car said he started out tuning it at 10 degrees but had ALOT of detonation..so he pushed it back to 8 degrees...and it is still "Pinging" alittle under full throtle....and the tuner said it "MIGHT" have 11:1 compression....but I dont think this is true???I am going to check for high cranking compression to maybe see if the cam is degreed wrong...ANY OTHER IDEAS?

It's quite possible that the static compression ratio really IS that high because stroking the engine increases the CR. If the cam's intake duration is too short or the intake valve closes too early, the dynamic compression ratio can be so high that detonation occurs even on premium fuel with retarded ignition timing.
I think you're on the right track in checking the cranking compression in each cylinder. If it does turn out to be very high (over 190psi), retarding the cam will help the situation some.
