Sluggish 94 w/backfire

94 5.0
I had a bbk catless exhaust put on with homaster mufflers, about 6 months later, my ride is now running like shit. When i floor it, it seems like its flooded and dont really want to go! it sometimes even backfires, and then all of a sudden it will kick in and take off! Its really startin to tick tick tick me off.

Anyways.. i found a website that says you can use 2 spark plug non-foulers and attach it to the o2 sensor, reconnect and it will work just like a mil-eliminator, but for only a couple bucks. So i was gonna do this, but i looked under my car and i only see 2 o2 sesors up by the headers. I thought there was 4 sensors??? did they just remove the other two after the cats?

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showt...hp?t=123634664

is it even the o2 sensors that is doing this? or something else? i tried cleaning the MAF thing but didnt make much of a diff.

any help would be cool

only 2 o2 sensors on your ride. the catless exhaust shouldn't be causing your problem unless you have a severe exhaust leak. i would start by Checking Codes . let us know what codes you get

Since the problem is occurring at WOT when the engine computer's in open loop (ignoring O2 sensor output voltage), the problem is definitely NOT the O2 sensors. As Tengram said, check for codes.

I would also check to see if you have any intake leaks. Pull a couple of spark plugs and see what they are like.

FYI, you're right that the o2s are not read at WOT, but the ECM does use the previous part-throttle readings from the o2s to calculate injector pulsewidth for WOT. so o2s can have an affect on WOT A/F ratio.

here's a good article on it that will basically just repeat what i just said: http://www.mustangworks.com/index.cf...content_id/336

It's the Mass Air Flow sensor. If you have like a K&N Filter or another that gets oil, that oil coats the sensor. It tells the PCM the wrong air flow, making the fuel trims get all messed up, thinking you're at light load even though you're wide open. New MAF is like $44 for a stock one.

maybe true but he may also have another problem...in fact i had a similar problem not to long ago and my mass air was dirty i cleaned it and it did run much better but i also had two plugs that had fouled....i would run the codes anyway...
