New 5.0 owner ??

I have a few questions on what to do with my 94 5.0

1) how can I tell if it has underdrive pulleys?
2) Is there a big diff in the cheap and expensive CAI's?
3) what would be a good chip to put in? I saw the gorrilla chip on ebay but not sure if it is what they say?
4) what RPM should I shift? I does not sound to bad shifting at 6500 but I don't know if that is pussing a 5.0 or not.

Thanks

1)if you have UDP they usually have a different color than all the other pulleis unless they are steel UDPs.you can measure the diameter of the
crank alt and wp pullies.
2)the more expensive ones usually yield more power such as a JLT
which work very well as opposed to e bay specials which are crappy
3)if you car is basically stock a chip would be a waste of money.if not
a diablosport deltachip would be great
4)if your car is stock 6500 rpms if way high(stockheads ,cam intake)stock motors dont make power over 5000 rpms so no higher than 5500rpms

Thanks racinjason81 I thought 6500 might be a little high, the guy said it had a cam installed but knew nothing about it. I race a ministock and I run my 2.3 to 7250 all the time but I do blow one up every other year so I guess I better shift a little sooner in both stangs.

I guess I should have put the diameter of my pulleys, I don't know what stock was.

Is the power advantage of the good CAI worth the extra $200? If not is the ebay cheapie any better that stock.

Yeah I agree. I have a 95 GT and only when I am racing do I take the rpms above 5500.

1) The stock crank pulley has a diameter of 6-3/4". Most underdrive crank pulleys are 5" diameter.

2) I won't distinguish between a cheap or an expensive CAI. What I will say is that a good CAI will do what it's supposed to do; supply cool air to the engine, so the filter should be isolated from underhood heat. If it's exposed, forget it.

3) If your 5.0 is stock or near-stock, a good chip would be no chip at all. You don't need a chip or computer tume until you start doing heads/cam/intake mods.

4) A stock 5.0 will be spent making power by 5000rpm so there's no point going any higher. If you make it breathe better at higher rpm, you'll extend the powerband and you'll be able to shift higher. A fully modded 5.0 with heads/cam/intake will pull well up to the 6250rpm rev limiter.

The rev limiter is at 6250? If so then something has been done to the 94 I bought because I took it to 7000 the first time out because I am used to my race motor. Or the tach is not working properly. I guess I need to shut up because I am sounding like a bozzo shifting that high.

Thanks for the pully info Bullitt95

Are you serious? Why would the redline be set at 5900rpm and the rev limiter at 7000? At 7000rpm the stock 5.0 bottom end would be reduced to shrapnel, so I'm inclined to believe 6250 is more likely especially having seen a few SN95 5.0 dyno runs end at that rpm.
