Idling problem

I just got a new 95 mustang gt. Its a 5 speed, but it seems to be idling rough. i just started it up today, and it was idling, and after like 5 seconds of the rpms going back and forth between 200-700. it just died. i started it back up and did the same thing. this is the fourth time it has happened. does anyone have an advice for this?

Clean the IAC, MAF sensor, check for vacuum leaks. If none of those solves the problem, let us know.

ya im cleaing out the IAC, MAF sensor, and checking for vacuum leaks today. I'm also cleaning the throttle body, I heard that could cause idle problems as well. I'll let you know how it idles later on. Thanks.

I just cleaned the IAC. And started it back up and the idle is now worse. It is idling at 1100-1300 and i cannot get it to go back down. Any more ideas?

Sounds kind of familiar. My 94 was idling at 1500 all the time then it started idling higher the longer it ran. I cleaned the IAC also but mine improved, at least for about 10 min, now sometimes it idles below 1000 sometimes it does not. I checked for vacuum leaks and had the codes read. I had two codes, a barometric pressure sensor and an O2 sensor.

It would seem like it would be the TPS or the IAC from information I received before but neither of them sent a code to the computer. I really don’t want to start replacing sensors without knowing which one it is. The guys on here say go with the TPS first because it is the cheapest so I guess that will be my next step.

Good Luck

I also heard that 94 and 95's have a bad problem with idling issues

I bought a new IAC, and it fixed the problem completely. It cost me 128 dollars at Napa. They had it to, didn't have to order it.

New IAC looks like it worked for me also, it ideled at 2000 when I got home. Swapped the old one with the new one and right down to 1000. I will tweek it down to 950 when I get a chance.
