Drain plugs
I changed the oil in my 94 for the first time today. Why did Ford design the oil pan so it needed a plug in the front of the pan and in the back? I have never seen anything like this. If they needed more volume there was plenty of room around the rear sump to add the half quart that was in the front sump.

If I am not mistaken that is where the oil pump is located. It has nothing to do with oil holding capacity.
