Distributer Problems!

I was driving my 1995 mustang to work about a week ago. It started studdering a little and progress very quickly to a stall. I luckily broke down in front of a mechanic shop. He said it didn't have spark, so it was the distributer and replaced with a reman. distributer from Orielly. I picked the car up and immediatly drove about 50 miles. The car started to studder again and quickly stalled out. I got it towed home and pulled the distributer cap and found fine metal filings and fine plastic filings. I checked the codes and got 211 and 212. I then called the mechanic and he got me another distributer. I started the car prior to puting the new distributer and it was still missing very badly. I immediatly replaced the dist. I drove the car to work the next day, about 30 miles one way.On my way home I felt the car studder one time and then it ran fine all the way home. I pulled the dist capand found small metal filings. Are the filing normal? What could be the reason for these problems. Oh I forgot, I also replaced the ignition control module.

Something's definitely wrong if you're getting plastic & metal filings inside the distributor and this indicates abnormal wear. The question is why is this happening? Did you replace the old distributor with a brand new distributor or another used one? If it was used, it's possible that the distributor shaft is worn and causing a lot of slop in the rotor.
My advice would be to pull the distributor and check the shaft & drivegear for wear.

Both new distributers were remanufactured and came from Orielly auto parts. The second one that I put in was definately a good distributer, no slop in the shaft and spins true inside the cap.

I'm not sure how many miles the cam has on it. I know the stock was replaced with a b303. How should I check this?

Pull out the distributor and shine a light down the hole. You should see the cam gear down there and be able to tell if they're worn. Unless the distributor drive gear teeth were worn, I very much doubt the cam gear teeth would be worn. Cam gear teeth are usually much harder and it's the distributor gear teeth that go first (the reason is that it's easier to pull the distributor than it is to replace a cam).

Well, just a quick update. I finally had time to take her for a spin. I drove about 30 miles before she started to act up. I was luckily able to nurse her home by driving slowly. Any time I tried to give her somemore gas she would start bucking and the tach would start bouncing around. I will pull codes and check under the distributer cap tomorrow. Any help would be great. Thanks

What about the plastic and metal filings in the distributer? It is also missing upon startup now too.

Have you pulled the distributor to check the drive gear teeth?

yes,the teeth on the cam look good. I am leaning towards the fuel pump or the regulator today. I went for a 10 mile drive this morning. The miss was gone and the car ran like a dream. If the distributer was broken, it would still be running bad. Can a fuel preasure regulator go bad and give to much preasure?

Get a Napa dizzy! The only place I buy my parts from and have never had a problem with them. I think the armature is hitting the PIP sensor inside the dizzy and that's causing your metal and plastic shavings. The fuel pump is another possibility but I'm leaning more towards dizzy problems.

That is exactly what is happening. I just thought maybe it would happen a little. I guess not though. I think i'm just gonna buy an MSD or something. When I got the current distributer the sensor was tight. now it is kinda loose and isnt tight anymore.

Don't waste your money on an MSD dizzy. You'll be lucky to get a year out of it. Take your current one back to O'Reilly and get your money back. Obviously their dizzy's are junk. I've had my Napa reman in for over a year now and haven't had a problem.
