I'll list them:

10lb weight saving (smog pump & pipes)
More space to change spark plug wires and spark plugs
Cleaner engine bay
Less parasitic HP loss because the crankshaft has one less accessory to drive
No more backfiring from the exhaust on a trailing throttle

And if you ever do long tubes, it is ALMOST a must to take the smog crap out of the way...It can be done with it in there, but a bitch to tighten up the headers.
