Welcome to MM!
If you like the sound of the exhaust already you dont have to change it. You can just cut the tail pipe and just add on a new tailpipe you like and have a shop weld it in for you.

Second, You should do your gears. Now alot of people here are between 4.10's and 3.73's. Personally I think 3.73's are a well round gears for streets and fool around with its will not rev too high on the freeway. Even though the 4.10 don't either, but it does go a few hundred higher. Will you'll lose a few MORE gas mileage. Mostly street cars people here go for 3.73's i'll believe.

You also might want to get a set of sub frame connector.
Set of Under Drive Pulley

If your looking for alot more power, looking into a H/C/I swap. Trick Flow or Holley System Max.

Good Luck

I have flowmasters on my car and i am content with the quality of them ... though not sure of the sound on a gt...

My advice would be to take it to a shop and have new tips put on... that is if you enjoy the sound you are currently getting... if not look for some new mufflers you can find sample clips on youtube and that will really help you narrow down you search

If you go for long tubes, your existing X-pipe won't fit. You'd either need to have it shortened or go for a shorter X-pipe that's designed for long tubes. As for the tailpipes, you can have those shortened and put nice chrome tips on them.
Regearing the rear axle would be a very good move and for 5-speed Stangs, a 3.73 is the one to go for unless you're planning forced induction +/- stroker later on.

thans for the warn welcomes guys.. unfortunately i have not been driving the car cause of the weather weve been having here in good ole missouri..snow sucks im not even going to take a chance. but yea the sound of my exhaust is clean but could be a little louder. i took it to my old boss at NTB on friday and had them check the balancing on all 4 wheels the front 2 before he took the weights off were calling for almost 3 ounces on each side!! and they were only weighted on one side. so i had them rebalance all 4 wheels..hopefully if the weather clears up i can get to driving again and shoot up some pics for you guys!!

Quick threadjack here, but why is that ? I hear alot of people say it, but not really much reasoning behind it, other than gas mileage.

I had a lot of people tell me go with 4:10's on the aod cause you have overdrive the only reason I went with 3:73's is cause i got them for 75 bucks ford racing brand new they were to low for the guy who bought them but yes its about the gas milage and top speed I dont do a lot of long trips on the highway its mainly a track car so I will probably go with 4:10's later on

The reason for regearing is that the stock gearing is much too tall to make the best use of the available HP/TQ. To answer the question about which gear is best, that'll depend on what mods you're going to do, the transmission that you have, and the tire diameter. What's optimum on one vehicle could be less than ideal on another.
The 3.73 represents the best all-round choice on a non-stroked, naturally-aspirated 5.0 regardless of transmission so it's a good point of reference. To make the gear choice a little easier, I'll summarize them as follows (assume 25.7" diameter tires) according to transmission:

Manual

Stock or near-stock 5.0: 3.55 (3.73 also OK)
Full bolt-ons HCI 5.0: 3.73

Automatic

Stock or near-stock 5.0: 3.73
Full bolt-ons HCI 5.0: 4.10 (3.73 also OK)

If the gearing is optimum, you should reach the 1/4 mile trap near the top of 3rd gear in most cases, and the vehicle's drag-limited top speed should arrive at maximum HP rpm in top gear.

Gear the car according to your combos powerband. There is no best gear, it depends on what your running. That 3.73 is the best all around gear crap, is bs. Maybe if you have a stock set up. I know with my combo 3.73s are a joke. I actually compromised w/ 4.10s, when I should in all reallity be running 4.30's.

That's basically what I said in my first paragraph.

I said the 3.73 is possibly the best all-round choice on a non-stroked, naturally-aspirated 5.0. You have HCI and nitrous and I already said that for a HCI 5.0 (motor only), the 4.10 would be better.

Originally Posted by 95opal View Post

Why on earth would you want 4.30's on a nitrous HCI 5.0? Unless you can find some very sticky tires, you'll be vaporizing them on the start line and you might be looking for 5th gear before you reach the end of the 1/4 mile. The 4.30's are really only useful if you're racing to the 1/8 and even then, you're gonna need exceptionally good traction to take advantage of the extra torque multiplication.
