well after the cai you arent going to have much left of the 500 dollar budget...check the gears and see if they have been changed and maybe you can find an explorer intake at a salvage yard for the change you got left over

A 3.73:1 ring & pinion would be a good place to start and you might still have change left for a CAI.

An intake will not net you much with just your stock motor, but it's a start if you are going to do upper and lower intake and heads later on down the line.

But since you got gears already, i'll say go for the control arms and subframe. (you'll notice a big difference in driving/handling) I mean BIG over stock

I've heard somewhere the ebay CAI for about $20, can do just as good job as the other aftermarket CAI, but its ebay.. who knows.. maybe, maybe not. I'll just remove the air silancer in your orignal intake and re-use the same one, you will not see a big gain there w/your stock motor.

dont go with a mail order tune wait till you get your mods and have the car tuned...that is really made to make the mods you have done work together with your computer and fuel system its not really to use as an "upgrade" from what I know I have never used one always have my cars tuned

i was also looking in a summit book and saw a performance control module. it is 300 dollars and was thinking about that. but i also have found a explorer intake upper and lower in the junkyard. i did not ask how much he wanted but what would that do.

i would do some headers and/or an X pipe or a jlt cai and if you did the cai you'd most likely have money enough for the explorer intake

and if you have an auto a shift kit is a great idea

i think that the guy i bought it from put a shift kit in. when it shifts it gives the car a good firm shift. so it might have one in it already but not sure about that.

1.) Good set of long tube headers and an off road H or X pipe.
2.) Control arms and subframes
3.) GT40/GT40P heads and cobra/explorer/gt40 intake...Can be had for less than $500 if you shop around. But the heads might need to be done up in the machine shop. I would add a cam to that, but i hear sn95 cars dont respond well to cams...(you might want to ask the other SN guys.)
4.) Save your money and get an even better top end.
