Intakes
What is the best intake, I'm really interested in the Trick Flow StreetBurner intake but I heard the GT40 intake is better. Any opinion??

GT40 is good for its money, but the TFS is better.
Get the TFS or Holley System Max, they are great intakes

the gt40 has more power in lower rpms and the tfs and holley have more power and torque in the higher rpms.

Lower rpm: Ported stock intake or Cobra/Explorer (GT40) intake Medium rpm: Edelbrock Performer Higher rpm: Holley Systemax The TFS Street Heat is inferior to the Edelbrock Performer, and the TFS Track Heat is inferior to both the Edelbrock Performer RPM and the Holley Systemax. The TFS TW heads do come out on top though with the AFR 165's a close second for a 5.0.

Depends on your budget...you will notice a gain with a gt40/cobra/explorer (even more if ported)...But there are better names out there that make more HP with no porting.

Alright then, what are the rest of your mods?
If you want a cheap intake with nice lower end TQ, the cobra/explorer/gt40 is nice...But if you plan on putting aluminum heads, cam, and other supporting mods like MAF, injectors, TB, and even stroke it, you are going to want to look at the Trick Flow, Holley, Edelbrock...

Yeah, I would group them like this:
Lower rpm: ported stock GT intake, unported Explorer/Cobra GT40 Medium rpm: ported Explorer/Cobra GT40, Edelbrock Performer, TFS Street Heat Higher rpm: Holley Systemax, Edelbrock Performer RPM, TFS Track heat Remember it's important to match the intake to the heads and cam. You're not going to use the Holley Systemax intake on stock heads. Likewise you're not going to use the stock intake on TFS TW heads.

I've been eyeing the Trick Flow Street Burner. Plus i plan to juice my car and trickflow makes a plate that bolts up right between the upper and lower intake.

I'd go with a trick flow track heat. It's a good intake that will match up good with trick flow or afr 185 heads, if you go that way in the future.

Well i'm building this car slowly for the 1/4 mile but i want to be able to still drive it there too. i have another car for a dd so driveability isn't an issue either. what trick flow intake would give me best results at the track and i do plan on getting some heads within the next year too just so ya know.

Best results would depend on the rest of you setup...how it is now, i wouldnt go any bigger than the Trick Flow Street Heat, anything more than that with stock heads will just be overkill, and that is pushing it.

If so....Id be interested to see it. Also....the AFR 165's and TFS TW's are no where near close to each other when it comes for flow numbers. They dont even have the same port volume or valve size... I dont understand why people always try to compare to two. Even MM&FF (who have always shown favortism towards AFR) felt obligated to put the two heads in separate testing catagories due to their obvious differences. See for yourself... Head Test: Group 1 Unltimate Guide to 5.0 Cylnder Heads, Pt 2 Head Test: Group 2 Unltimate Guide to 5.0 Cylnder Heads, Part 3 If you note...the TFS TW's start flowing more alot sooner( relative to valve lift) as compared to the AFR 165's The only fair comparison would be to compare the AFR 185's to the TFS TW CNC'ed 185 heads.....since these two heads both share the same valve sizes, port volume, etc. Then you'll also see that, even with the playing field leveled, the TFS TW heads flow circles around the "inferior" AFR heads.

To answer your question... With a stock set of heads and cam....an intake will show only nominal hp improvement. (less than 15hp) With a good set of aftermarket heads, a properly selected cam,and a stock displacement engine.....any of the above mentioned aftermarket intakes will work very well. They all are very close to each other with a difference of no more than 10-15hp between any of them. Dispite what alot of people belive...you will not notice that small of a hp difference on the street and/or at the track with your likely setup. Alot of people dont like to hear that...but its the truth.

I guess the point I was trying to make with regards to the different intakes is that they're all good products. All of them will yeild about the same results on the same engine (stock displacement). The Holley SysteMax II and Edel RPM II do make more hp on the larger engine combos (347+ cubic inches) and I would not recommend them on anything smaller. Something to keep in mind.

so here's a link to an article that you'll find interesting:AFM Intake the Power Notice how the Holley Systemax stands out as the big HP maker while still performing surprisingly well at lower rpm. While the AFR 165 doesn't flow as well as the TW on the intake side, the smaller valve does allow the use of a higher lift cam without running into piston-to-valve clearance issues, so that claws back some of the deficit.
