Why are the 1995 5.0 engines only pushing out 215 horsepower? Even thugh they only have 215 hp I've heard the reacted very well to mods and it's really easy to get power out of them.....

The reason why the stock 5.0 only puts out 215hp is because the intake system, heads, and exhaust system are so restrictive that the engine cannot breathe. The same low output (makes you wonder why Ford called it a High Output engine) is the reason why it responds so well to simple bolt-on modifications. Uncorking the engine so it can breathe is an easy route to more HP/TQ so if you're not interested in forced induction or building a stroker, the traditional hotrodder's bolt-on mods are the way to go.

I can assure you these engines are actually producing more than 215bhp. 215 is just a rating.

They can't be putting out much more cause a 99-04 V6 with a good driver can beat it and it's rated at 190.

That honestly means nothing. I can beat a stock 95' GT with a bone stock 98' Integra TR.. does that mean the ITR is producing more power? Heck no.. you cant compare the two based on drivers. 94-95 GTs are rated at 215bhp with 300lb-ft of torque. They actually make closer to 260bhp. Ford under-rates most of their high-end performance cars, this is old news.

260hp? You wish. Most stock SN95 5.0's with a T5 put down about 190-195hp at the rear wheels, so that's equivalent to about 220-225hp at the flywheel. Perhaps Ford did underrate the 5.0 at 215hp but only slightly.

My math was a little off (thats what i get for doing it in my head). Assuming 15% of the engines power is lost in the drivetrain... 225-230bhp is the corrected number. My apologies.

If you put a CAI and full exhaust on those SN95s, aka bolt-ons...you'll probably free up 30-40hp. My friend has a 1995 GT w/ Mid-Lengths, FlowMaster Catback, !Cat, CAI, MAF work, 3.73s along with a King Cobra Clutch and he was running pretty even with stock LT1 F-Bodies. Puts ya in the 270hp range.

Im not sure that those mods will give that much of a horsepower gain...

If you bolt on a CAI, MAF, TB, pulleys, headers, midpipe, and catbacks onto a bone stock 5.0 long block, you should have about 230-235rwhp (~40rwhp gain over stock) or 265-270hp at the crank. Crane Cobra 1.7 roller rockers add a further ~5hp so you could match the 275hp output of a stock LT1 and still have the stock 5.0 heads/cam/intake.

You would be correct. Mine will be pretty much an LT4 after this summer...if my funds come rollin' in.

Yep, LS1s started in '98....and are marked by a re-designed front bumper/fenders with a 'double hood-scoop look' on the WS.6s. I'm old school and love the LT1 though...and I can only afford a WS.6 that is an LT1. Don't see as many of them too so car shows are that much more fun, lol!

Very cool. I havent seen many people show nearly as much interest in LT1s as those with LS style engines. I like all the WS6s looks wise, they're some damn good looking cars IMO. I like the LS powerplants too, they respond so well to minor additions... LT1 and LT4s are sweet motors in my book too.

Why are we talking about junk? Nobody cares about firechickens or crapmaros. Go to one of their forums and talk about that crap.
