94 OBD I trouble codes

i was wondering if someone had a reference on how i could check the codes on my 94 GT. my only computer experience is on diesel trucks, i learned that you can cycle the ignition a certain number of times and it will flash the check engine light. can someone help me with how to get it to blink the codes (if possible) and what the different number codes mean? i dont really wanna spend the $30 to buy a scanner because im that broke at the moment. so if its possible to get it to flash codes wihth a paperclip...

The two I know of are made by Ford Motor Company and Snap-On tools. Our 1994-1995 Mustangs are equipped with the Ford protocal PCM / Processor called EEC IV. Any OBD II scan tools will not work on these cars equipped with the 5.0 engines. The scan tool made by Ford is called the NGS (New Generation Star Tester). I am an ex-Ford tech, Hope this helps.
