what to look for when buying?
I'm thinking of purchasing a local '94 Mustang GT. It has 124,xxx miles, black leather, 5 speed, mach sound system, etc. It seems to be in pretty good condition, and when I test drove it, it seemed pretty solid.
But I've never driven a car over the year of 1980 lol. What kind of things do I look for? Any common problems to look out for? Thanks for the input. Will Z |

check for smoothness, any type of vibrations and pay attention to speeds if there is..thats a pretty high mileage car..are you looking for a project/ weekend car or daily driver?

I'm looking for it as a daily driver. I own a '68 Mustang coupe I've been driving since I got my liscense, and this guy wants to trade straight across. He's a friend of a friend, and I know he's a good guy. The 68 is in decent condition for its age, but is far from perfect. The 94 is in good shape from what I saw. I looked for rigidity in everything, the motor looked clean. The miles mostly come from him driving to and from North Carolina so I'm not that worried about the 124k.
He just wants to trade straight across, which is fine by me. I've been looking for a newer car to drive and he's been looking for a project. Good deal, I think. I just don't know if I missed anything when I looked his over. The ride was smooth, the idle was smooth, I can't really say much about what it's supposed to launch like because I'm used to my 351 Windsor lol. umm...I hope that helps lol. Thanks for the input! I thought about it. But I've wanted a 94/95 Mustang for a long time, and I have a 6cyl 67 coupe project sitting the driveway...I think I'm getting a good deal lol.

Well basic bolt ons to star with, of course. I like the ram air kit offered by Cervinis a lot, and I'll go with a Magnaflow catback (dunno what headers yet). I'll put a pro 5.0 shifter on, and I'm thinking 3.73s in the back (I don't know what they'll do to mpg yet). After that I'll work on the suspension a bit, prolly go with Steeda stuff.
When the time comes for H/C/I I'm looking at AFR 180cc/Comp Thumper/Cobra intake. After that it's free reign, open to all suggestions and anything that can fit my budget lol. |

Steeda is def. where you wanna go with the suspension stuff. IMO, its the best you can buy. I had a full steeda set-up on my 02 gt, and i loved it. The difference in gas mileage between 4.10's and 3.73's is minimal, and I would highly recommend you go with 4.10's instead. the 5.0 has great low-mid range power, and 4.10's would really help kick your ass back in the seat with that low end torque. it's got nothing past about 4800 rpm, and in my experience (i've owned both 4.10 and 3.73), 3.73's really only thrive if you run at higher rpms. just my 2cents. good luck with the car man.

i have 3.73 and im kinda wishing i got the 4.10s..but i think the gas mileage gets cut hard on the highway..i drove a 93 with 4.10s and it was great

I went with the 3.73's for top end...with 4.10's i believe you top speed is cut to the 120 range.

^ not true. i can tell you from experience. at least on my 4.6 these were my numbers:
3.73's - 19 city, 27 hwy 4.10's - 14 city (cuz i got on it a lot more ), 25 hwy. that's really not that bad.

I thought about 4.10's, but I usually drive highway more than anything. If the 4.10's aren't much of a diff on mpg and won't cut my top end down, they sound like a solid option. Any other input?
Thanks guys. I'll have pics up (hopefully) tommorow. |

Umm...I wasnt talking about your top end as in MPG I was talking about the maximum speed reachable in your stang. With the 4.10's you have faster acceleration but less TOP SPEED. And they dont pull so well in the higher speeds.
