this was a good thread until somebody went and screwed it up with an argument about gears. if you want to argue about gears... again... please do it in another thread.

You can but I don't have much info to share on that. I know people have made the switch but I have no experience with it so I don't have any details for you. Google is your friend.

(I doubt you'd feel a SOTP difference with the pulleys but they certainly deliver very good bang for the buck (e.g. ~5rwhp from an ASP underdrive crank pulley costing only $39 at Summit Racing))
Do u need a different belt for this

Indeed you do. When I removed my smog pump I needed an 89.5" belt. After installing the ASP underdrive crank pulley, I needed an even shorter belt and found that the Gates K060868 (86.8") was a perfect fit.

Easy, but you'll need to remove the air filter assembly first so that you have enough room to work in. With the belt off, you only have two long bolts to remove in order to pull the smog pump off its mounting bracket. Here's an excellent article detailing the procedure:

id fux with the gears before anything else,.. gears, shifter, exhaust, intake.. and that should be a blast,.. when you begin getting bored of that,.. than you can get deeper into the tuning world,.. or if a chevy beats you

Not necessarily. The smog pump delete pulley allows you to reuse the stock belt in its normal routing, but you can do without it and use the aforementioned shorter 89.5" belt. You'll need to route it slightly differently as shown here:
