help with friends 5.0

my buddy has a 95 5.0 HO mustang gt. recently it was hard starting and acting up so me and him took it apart in the driveway. it turns out the throttle body was extremly dirty and gunked up and the maf screen was dirty. we cleaned it all up and put it back together and fired it up. it took a while to start and when it did it ran real sloppy and stuttering almost stalling. then the check engine light came on. now its got a lowerd idle and still acts up any suggestions?

Might have messed up the MAF screen while cleaning it.

well to clarify now: when it is in park it idles around 500-900 rpms. when placed in gear it falls almost to 0 then rises back to 500 then revs up and down to 900. when you give it gas it almost stalls. while going down the road you dont have any problems and throttle is instant.

thanks

i had this exact same problem when i put a jlt cai on my 02 mustang... as it turns out, my MAF kept wiggling around and it wasn't on quite right when i first put it back together. i had the exact same problems you're having. make sure the MAF is in the EXACT same position that you took it off on. if its even sitting at the slightest angle off, it will cause your car to sputter and stall. if the MAF is in fact in the same position and you're having the same problem, i'll bet that you messed the sensor up. those things are really sensitive, and very easy to mess up if you drop it or knock it or anything. if that's the case, go get a new one.

my car did that and it was the iac and tps..tps should be as close to 1 volt as possible..like .98 would be good but not 1 or over..the iac and tps arent exspensive, and if your TB was that bad , then ur gonna need those for sure

really the only way to tell is to have paid close attention to how you took it off. if needs to be facing the same direction as when you took it off.

What did you use to clean the mass air? That TPS voltage is a bit high. Elongate the mounting holes and adjust it down to about 1.00 volt.

Cant remember off the top of my head. it was safe for sensors i remember it saying. But we didnt clean the actual MAF. just the MAF screen let it dry then replaced it.

we thought about that, but without the screen there is a gap between the MAF and the mating surface. we didnt know if this would cause issues..

when i bought my car, the maf screen had been removed... but there was a rubber connector right behind the maf that looked like it had been bought at a hardware store. perhaps this was put there to seal up that gap that had been there like you described.

i don't really have the answer though, because i just put on a JLT CAI, which moves the maf to the fender well, so it's a bit different.

well hes decided to replace the TPS and IAB due to age and the problems associated. The problem is the replacement sensors are based on the OEM numbers for the parts. for example at advance auto there are:

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com

and
While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com

to me the only difference is the price lol. any thoughts on this?

thanks for all the help guys..

You will need to bring the factory part number in when you purchase it. They are different. Its common for auto manufacturers to switch parts mid year or randomly.
