installing headersis it a big deal to install new headers or not? also, if i get equal lengths, do i need a new mid-pipe? i want to transfer to an o/r h-pipe eventually, but i want to do it after i do headers if i can. what midpipe fits with equals?

headers are not to hard to put on i jacked up the passenger side of the motor and had to move a few things around but over all it was pretty simple and be careful of of the dip stick and make sure you use new header bolts

valve covers is most likely what made the difference... probly why you didnt have to lift it.
and i forgot about the steering shaft i had to slightly modify mine, you might not have to though but just saying its close so watch that!

well, it's probably easier to take the valve covers off than lift the engine... so maybe ill try to plan some intake work when i get my headers.

yikes dont do that unless you are doing head work... its way easier to lift the engine... unbolt the motor mounts put a floor jack under the oil pan with a board over it only need to jack it an inch or two for more clearance to get the new ones in.
ill look for some pics.

hok... pics would be cool. thanks dude. guess you're right, sounds easy enough. but either way, i probably won't get around to doing it until i am able to get my trick flow top end kit to put on... would it make my life easier to jack the engine up to do that work as well?

lol probably wouldn't make a huge difference i never put heads on with the motor in the car!
now that i think of it i think my bbk headers came with instructions with images of the motor mounts

95 what else are you running with your bbk headers? I just ordered mine and have a o/r hpipe and flows but its 2 1/2 and think I want to go with 3" did you notice any difference in sound when you did the headers?

Get un-equal length shorties if that's what you're going with(over longtubes) Spark plug changes will be much easier with unequals. If you guys are taking valve covers off or raising the motor to put shorties on you're doing something wrong. SERIOUSLY! If you can remove your stock headers and put the new ones on in 40 mins I'm glad you aren't working on my car. Headers are easy to put on they are just time consuming IMO You don't have to modify the steering shaft, remove valve covers, jack the motor up or anything like that.

listen here guy!
i just said it would make it easier to get them in unbolting the motor mount is no big thing... and you don't know that he wont have to modify anything every car is different and when things are that close, than any miscalculation or something not lined up perfect could give you a rub... so don't be so quick to speak your opinions about the work i do. we were simply sharing problems we encountered and how we fixed them!!! thanks

I've put full exhaust(headers to tailpipes) on 4 different 95's now. 3 GT's and 1 Cobra. Never once did I remove a valve cover, jack the motor up, modify the steering shaft. My opinion is just that, my opinion. I just don't want the guy to be too scared to get involved with it because you tell him he has to do all of these things. It isn't necessary!

I have to agree with Flamedstang. For those other crazy ideas about jacking the motor up, removing valve covers, and modifying steering shaft, you dont have to do any those but whatever floats your boat. I might have to call the BS flag on the 40 minute install for equal length headers. IMO, the only way I see that is if you were installing them on an engine not in the car. If you can.....i need to be educated

Sorry I didnt see the part about the upper and lower intake and valve covers off. Maybe 40 minutes from that point but i doubt it. Man thats a lot of needless work in my opinion.

I agree that it should be a simple swap in and out. I didn’t take the intake and valve covers off to put the headers on. I said, these parts were off the engine at the time of install. I was doing a cam, head and intake swap. (The 40 min included headers and installing the exhaust) Everyone works at different speeds and are in different situations. As long as the job gets done and done right it doesn’t mater if it takes 30 min to 2 hours.
