What happened to my AC?! Help

...I refilled the system with refrigerant b/c my AC was blowing hot air when set on max cool. However I just found out that the compressor doesn't really kick in ...it spins for about a second then stops for about 10 secs then spins again for a second and does this over and over. I'm assuming it should be spinning when set to max ac. Has anyone come accross this? I'm going on a 8k trip around the country on the 20th...would not be 'cool' with a busted AC. Please help

i hate to say this man, but you're gonna have to take it to a dealership to find parts for your a/c. when my low pressure valve went out, i searched every parts store within 50 miles of where i live and i couldn't find the valve core. i had to take it to the dealership. it blows cuz they're so expensive. i don't know much about a/c systems, except that they only work under pressure and after time, the lines can loose pressure - if there's no pressure in the lines, your compressor wont run. so that's what i'm guessing your problem is... you need to re-pressurize your system, but i don't know how to do that.

Thanks man, I appreciate your thoughts. I'll probably just have them diagnose the problem and if it's too pricey I'll do the trip without AC, I don't want the dealer messing with my cars chi .... I'm hoping it's something simple

Thanks again

I think you're right on the money. I just had the same problem with mine. I had the AC recharged only a month ago only to find that it was just blowing warm air again with the compressor cycling on only for about a second. Sure enough there was a leak from a valve. I had it replaced and the system recharged. It works fine now and I just hope it lasts this time.

there is a electonic low pressure switch that sometimes goes bad google it and find it and take a piece of wire and jump the switch and see if the compressor kicks on and it gets cool......if so you can just replace it or leave the wire jumped as long as you dont run it low on freon
