The coolant temp. sensor on the passenger side metal heater pipe sends the signal to the ECU and controls the fan on/off operation. The sending unit for the temp. gauge is on the driver's side behind the distributor and that's the one you need to replace.

that ones brand new..i had to buy a new one for the aftermarket gauge..i used it for a couple weeks before my car sat for a couple months, and it worked right..i think it might be a clogged radiator..is there any way to check that..i know on the old radiator cap there was some corrosion on it..there was tap water in there with a little bit of antifeeze before it sat for a couple months..when that fluid came out it was a brownish color...any thoughts?

Try flushing the radiator out as I described earlier and if that doesn't help your engine run cooler, you'll need to replace it.

i did i flushed the whole system..i ran it and let it warm up..i felt around the radiator for hot and cold spots...it seemed good..hot on top and cold towards the bottom..but the lower radiator hose was hot the whole time...before and after the thermostat opened..i also let her get up to 210 and sprayed the radiator with a hose for about 30 seconds and she didnt cool down at all..so im gonna check my water pump today by stickin a screwdriver in the pump and turning the pulley by hand..ill let u know what happens
