Motive Gear makes Ford Racing gears.

yeah they are good. some people claim to get a slight rear end whine with motive gears, but its no biggie. just make your exhaust louder. lol.

Gear whine is related to installation not the gear. Some people say Richmond gears whine too. I've used both Motive and Richmond and never had any gear whine issues. If the gears are installed properly they will not make any noise.

What kinda mods do you have. If your going N/A 4.10 would be ok but 1st gear on the street is going to be worthless. If your going to go forced induction. I would step down to a 3.55

4.10

good lord people - wayyyy too many threads on gears. everyone has a different opinion. if you originally thought to go with 4.10s then, GET THEM! dont let anyone convince you otherwise.

darrell is right gear noise is install quality. and i was doing some research and acording to every company i talked to including ford racing brand gear doesnt mater they are all made out of the same steel (even stock), also 4.10's will kill your millage if its a daily driver, might go with those 3.73's and get a mgw short shifter. gears alone wont save you from a quicker car with 2.73 thats just me tho

4:10's won't kill your mileage.
unless all you do is drive @ 80mph on the highway.
you may see 1-2 mpg drop if that when you drive normally and even an increase in town.

thats what most people do on the highway. and i think its gonna hurt more than 1or 2 mpg, and also the extra wear on the parts from driving around at 3k all the time, but thats just an openion, if you want 4.10 do it, have a blast

I've installed 4.10s twice in my own daily drivers. One car had 3.55 gears and one car had 4.10 gears. Both times fuel economy became much worse than any other gear change I've ever done. Both city and highway suffered. I've gone from stock 3.08 gears to 3.55 gears and seen better highway mileage and I've gone from 3.55 to 3.73 and seen a small decrease in mileage but the switch to 4.10s both times made my wallet thinner.

Never having new gears in my Mustang I don't have any personal experience w/ the matter. With that said, I did run numbers on the decrease fuel economy. I travel 70 miles (round trip) each day at 65 mph. It's nearly all highway miles (so I assumed constant rpm) and I get about 23 mpg w/ stock gears. After running numbers w/ the increased rpm from 4.10s, my mileage went down to ~18 mpg (this is all theoretical). With a drop of 5 mpg I decided to hold off on the gears until I get a new car and the Stang can be for fun. Again, no personal experience here but most of my driving is highway so I decided against gears.

sounds logical, im glad you checked that way you didnt end up dreading that trip with that mileage, seems like close estimates too, did u have a formula or was that just gestimate math?
