you just hit the nail on the head bud.
I had an 02 GT that ran a 12.9 in the 1/4 mile, (I don't know how much hp it had tho, it was cammed) and my basically stock 5.0 "feels" more torquey and is just as much fun to drive (even though its probably about at least 1.5 secs slower than my other car). I get about 17-19 city and 22-23 highway in mine

Definatly go with a 94 or 95 gt i got a 94 two years ago from this old guy, extremly clean interior, exterior had normal road wear, car has 88k on body and around 7k on motor. everyone is right about how the 5.0s feel more tourquey i drove my buddys 01 gt with 3.73 gears and it didnt seem to pull as hard as mine while mine has stock gears and less performance modds.
All in all the 94-95s are just a fun car to drive good handeling not as bumpy as most cars and if u plan on doing mods to a 5.0 it is cheaper than doing mods to a 96 and up. |

At lower revs the 5.0 produces more torque than the 4.6 and it's only above ~4000rpm where the 4.6 starts to have an advantage. In normal street driving, the engine spends most of its time below 4000rpm where the extra torque makes the 5.0 more fun to drive.

If I were going to try and sell you on one or the other I would have to go 5.0. However, with that said, if you are not a mechanical kind of guy with a fairly robust tool set, I would have to say you may be better off going with a 98+ 4.6. Not that the 5.0s break often, but they are getting older and stuff wears out. About the insurance thing, I just checked and it costs me $575/year with State Farm to insure my 94 GT Convertible with everything but collision (that does include comprehensive with a $0 deductible and two tiers above minimum IL liability coverage). Again, I'm 21 with no tickets (that hit my driving record) or accidents to date. Last edited by Ryno8705; August 18th, 2008 at 11:06 AM. |

How so cheap? I'm 17 with a clean record, and I pay more then that now, and I'm on my folks policy.

I don't know but I'm going to guess it's because I don't speed, I haven't been in an accident that's my fault, and I have not made a claim. Plus, State Farm gives me a $200 discount per year for my grades. I also think they gave me a slight discount when I turned 21 and also because I have two cars insured with them. I'd guess you pay more simply becuase you're younger.

im 19 and i pay $1650/year with Progressive for my 95 GT. I have 1 speeding ticket and 1 accident. thats insured in Wyoming though, and thats cheaper. on my 02 GT that i used to have, it was insured in Maryland with USAA and that was $3200/year when I was 17/18 - and on my parents policy. But that was a newer car, so it makes a difference.

I had a 1987 mustang gt when i was 19 and the insurance was 1500 a year. I moved out, dropped off my folks policy and it dropped down to 900 a year. now i'm 35 and drive a saleen with full comp and collision and pay 364 every six months.
you'll get a break because the car is older and has a lower replacement value. the best thing you can due about the insurance is just to call a few different companies and find out who is gonna give you the best price for the coverage you want. you can save serious coin shopping around. and the older you get, the cheaper it will be. if you do get a ticket, pay the couple hundred bucks for a lawyer to handle it because if you don't your insurance co. is gonna get you for alot more than that over the following 3 years.

btw, the 5.0 definately had more kick. it's ALOT cheaper to build up than a 4.6 too.
