GT40 upper/lower intake

sorry if this ? has been asked before, i don't have the time right now to do a search... any ideas on what sort of gains i would see from getting the GT40 upper/lower intake manifolds only- not the heads, just the upper/lower intakes. is it worth spending $400 for? or if i'm going to spend the money, would it be better for me to spend a little more and get the Trick Flow Track Heat upper/lower? would I see more gains from the Trick Flow intake?

i guess my real question is, is it worth doing the intake if i'm not doing heads or cams yet? will i still see reasonable gains?

I did the same thing you are doing right now...and honestly it was WELL worth the wait of doing the heads and intake at the same time. Im pretty sure you wont gain much with the trickflow intake on a stock application. The gt40 intake wouldnt be overkill but I dont think you will get the kind of performance gains that you want. And FYI i got my upper and lower for like 200 shipped.

Don't pay 400 bucks for a GT40 upper and lower. That's highway robbery. You can pick up 94/95 cobra intakes for 300 bucks or so. The track heat will be overkill for what you have now. If you don't have alot of cash just wait until you do. If you want performance now, look for a used set of GT40 heads and the 94/95 cobra intake. Keep your GT cam and add 24lb injectors. I'm sure you could piece it all together for less than 1000 bucks and be close to 300hp.

I suggest you go for the Cobra/GT40 intake but you can indeed pay much less than $400 for it. The money that you'll save could be used for Tmoss to port it. Even if you ultimately go for TW or AFR 165 heads, a ported Cobra intake will kick ass.
Get the intake and wait until you've got heads/cam before you bolt it on. A Cobra intake/GT40P heads/stock cam/1.7 RRs combination would be great for midrange torque, pull well up to near 6000rpm, and deliver about 280rwhp.

i just got a set of GT40 upper/lower intakes for $150... corral... GT40/Explorer intakes. All cleaned and painted. $150!! - Corral Forums if anybody's interested.

What does it usually cost to get it ported? And I am actually looking at picking up a set of GT40p's soon as well... as soon as the right price comes around. I'll probably keep the stock cam.

95blackbeauty... PM sent

ebay or corral. I picked mine up for 50 bucks on corral. Any elbow will work. If you want your intake p&p'd contact tmoss over on the corral, he'll be able to answer your $$ questions.

The GT40 heads will be a considerable improvement to your stock 351 heads. The stock heads you have are probably a 1.78" intake valves, and a 1.45" exhaust valves -- the GT40 heads have a 1.84" intake valves and 1.54" exhaust valves. In other words, they will flow more air.

That HP estimate is with all the basic bolt-ons added (CAI, MAF, TB, headers, midpipe, catbacks, pulleys).
A set of new Bridgestone Turanzas and a pair of Maximum Motorsports rear lower control arms really improved traction and helped me squeak into the 13's.

$250 directly from Maximum Motorsports. Money well spent IMO. I also had the stock rubber rear coil spring isolators replaced with urethane units at the same time, and removed the quad shocks.
