Dropping gas tank

Any pointers on dropping the gas tank to replace the fuel pump on my 95? I know, a pretty basic thing to do but I haven't dropped it on this car ever and was wondering if there were any simple things or tricks to look for. I've already got it in the air, and it looks like the two straps that are only held on with two bolts (looks like the side of the strap towards the back of the car is on a swing) are the main supports for it, correct? Any tips would be greatly appreciated...its got a little over 1/4 tank in it, so I'm just going to use a floor jack and have a guy on either side of the tank to hold it steady.

-Relieve the fuel pressure by unplugging the inertia switch in the trunk and then turning the car on and let it run dry.
-Remove the tank filler pipe bracket bolt, then pull then remove the bolts from inside the fenderwell.
-Disconnect fuel and vapor lines.
-Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
-Remove the bolts from the front ends of the fuel tank straps - they are hinged on the other side so you can swing them out of the way.
-Use a brass punch or a wooden dowel to tap the lock ring around the fuel pump to loosen it
-Pull the assembly out. Put the new one in, make sure you replace all gaskets and put it in cleanly so you don't damage the strainer on the new pump.
-Its probably a good idea to change the rubber gasket around the filler neck as well... according to flamedstang95, they can only be found at Ford for around $25.
-Put it back in the same way it came out.

A helper isn't needed if there isn't much gas in it. All you need is a good floor jack. Yes, be sure to replace the rubber grommet as mentioned. They leak on these cars after time and you may as well do it while you're in there. Trust me! You don't want liquid gold spilling all over the ground everytime you make a left hand turn. When you wire the fuel pump up make sure you connect the wires with the supplied butt connectors, you don't want those wires(pos & neg) to EVER touch each other. Otherwise it'll be R.I.P 95stroker

thanks for all the tips, got it done without a hitch. i went to the ford dealership to get that filler neck gasket, and they didn't have any, so i went ahead and did the pump anyways. well, you guessed it, now that gasket leaks, so the tank has to come back out again. oh well, at least this time it'll go pretty fast! again thanks for the pointers!

we all learn from our mistakes, just like it happened to me the first time I ever did it(almost 7 yrs ago) Glad you got the pump in.

just got finished putting in my 255lph pump! I DID replace the fill grommet, and got the tank out/in with no problems! I didn't think the car ran too bad before, but I can already tell what a huge difference this new, bigger pump has made! Everyone should put the swap on there "to do" list!

to everyone reading this post, listen to flamedstang95 and WildWill...replace that damn gasket! i pulled my tank out AGAIN and put the gasket in without a problem, it was just a pain to have to drop it twice. the old gasket came out in almost two pieces, so it was far more weathered than i thought.

i didn't really notice a difference in the way my car ran with the 255lph now in, other than it blew a little smoke out while at higher rpm's...i think its telling me to hurry the hell up and get it tuned! after a postponing for a couple of weeks now (because of the pump/weather/etc.), i will hopefully finally be doing it saturday night. the sct chip is already there (dynosport - lincoln, ne), so hopefully the car puts out some pretty good numbers.
