He said he doesn't want to spend alot of money. A t-56 isn't cheap in my world. What kind of tranny are you talking about, T5 or AOD-E?

i think the t3650 is a direct swap from the t45, except for the belhousing and the fact that the t3650 is an electric speedo. the t5/t45 are mechanical. you will probably need to switch out your dash to an 01+. it would probably not be worth while to make it work. oh, and the t3650 IS NOT a stronger transmission than the t5. they are very easy to tear up. i know lots of people that have. I would just try and find yourself a World Class t5 if you don't want to spend to much. or if you can save up enough, get a tko 5/600 or a t-56.

Trans Questions Answered
1. The T45 is a strong transmission but has lots of issues with cheap small parts. We build them to take up to 700hp and have re-engineered the small parts to take the bad out. The T45 is no longer factory supported by Ford or Tremec, which is why a lot of guys are swapping to the 3650. 2. The 3650 is a direct replacement for the T45, except in Cobras, where a different cross member is necessary to do the job right. In a GT car you can swap one for the other with no mods and no additional parts. The 3650 is a stronger, better shifting transmission than the T45 and is still factory supported. We have 350, 430 and 700hp builds for 3650s. 3. The TKO and T56 are not cheap, but they do rock. 4. I hate to dissappoint you, but while the t5 is a great transmission and can be built to hold up to 500hp, it is not as strong as the 3650. The gear materials, shaft diameters, synchro and fork designs in the 3650 make it one of the strongest transmissions to grace a Mustang since the large input Toploaders. 5. Perhaps the most important part of the post; EVERY MUSTANG OWNER FROM 1993 TO 2004 NEEDS TO REPLACE THEIR CLUTCH CABLE SYSTEM. The combination of firewall flex and cable stretch creates clutch drag which is responsible for 80% of stock Mustang transmission failures. You must have a firewall stabilizer, a low stretch cable and a billet quadrant to get consistent disengagement and a long lasting transmission. If you don't believe me, go watch your firewall flex while a buddy pushes your clutch pedal. You will be amazed. And if you already have a small, round cable adjuster you are making the problem worse because you are putting a point load on the firewall. OK, I'm not trying to write a novel here, so I will stop bleeding at the mouth. If anyone needs help with transmission advice, please don't hesitate to ask. |

t45 vs 3650
Both transmissions have the exact same speedometer hook-up. Unplug the t45 and put the plug on the 3650. No muss, no fuss.
Now, who wants to buy a transmission?
