my BBK o/r H-pipe has no cats (obviously, which means less restrictive air flow), is larger in diameter (which also means less restrictive air flow), and it was noticeabley lighter than the stock h-pipe
it's a win win win situation

aftermarket midpipe = 2.5" and not alot of bends for more flow
stock midpipe = 2.25" with alot of bends and 4 cats which makes it more restrictive Don't cut out your cats. Buy an aftermarket midpipe and save your stock one for emmissions. |

and like i said, it's really not that hard to swap out h-pipes once you figure out a trick to it.. i honestly think it would be easier to swap midpipes out every year than cutting off your cats up near your headers

you will LOVE the sound of the BBK o/r H-pipe with flows.. the tone and volume is perfect.. trust me on this, you will not regret it.. just watch the video i posted.. it will obviously be louder and sound better in person though

I just got a Pypes off road X-pipe with Borla mufflers and honestly think it sounds better then flows. No where near the interior drone of a flowmaster, and a little quieter which i'm happy about because daily driving with a constant buzz gets old.
And X/H pipes don't make the exhaust spin.. It works to give equal pressure across all the cylinders essentially pulling air out of the cylinders and reducing back pressure. Minor torque loss can happen tho, it's not a myth. X-pipes in general give higher hp gains in the top end while sacrificing a little bit down low. H-pipes are better for the bottom end. Ultimately if you want it street able ya have to decide what you want. If you get an off road pipe now you can save a little money now and put in some high flow cats later come inspection time. Which may or may not be cheaper in the long run if you or someone you know can weld. Last edited by Dysfunction; January 16th, 2009 at 04:27 PM. |

Get an off road h pipe and 2 1/2 piping duals with gt500kr mufflers that would probably be ur best option IMO keep the cats if u wanna sound deep

my exhaust setup is in my sig below.
I love it at cruising and idle its not so loud that you cant talk to the person next to you but when you step on it you know for sure its a v8. A friend of mine has an offroad h and dumped 40's and the thing is just stupid loud. at idle and cruising and crazy on acceleration

My two cents:
I think these cars are slower without Cats. Yes, when you take the cats off you get better flow, but better flow means the 02 sensors arn't getting hot and are not reading right. If you have a sensor not reading correctly it throws everything off, even if it is only slightly.

ive got a question... i live overseas so forget about getting a off road x-pipe. Right now i dont have mufflers just the cats, i want to take those 2 out also, but will i have a problem with not having backpressure? If i get some cherrys installed will that help out a little?

unless you have a fully built motor pushing over 450HP then yea, your gonna suffer from not having enough backpressure. having the mufflers would help alot.

just get a upr off road-x and be done with it. I have an H now, but much preferred the x that I had on my old 96. Depending on the muffler you go with, it wont be "crazy" loud. I never had an issues with police and I had custom mufflers with only 2 baffles in each. Sounded ba. do it
