Rear Diff Cover

I have a slight leak (no dripping) from the bottom of my differential cover. I took it back to the guy who did my gears (install was in March so not his fault) and was told the cover just got bent a little and it would be a good time to upgrade.

Is it worth putting on a nice girdle/cover or should I just put on a new Ford OEM cover? If I upgrade, which one do you recommend? Also, should this be done by a pro or can a novice/amateur (me) handle this?

Thanks guys.

Yeah man, its pretty simple, but its gonna be a mess. But get a sweet chrome trickflow one or something. A stronger and sweeter looking one. Its just a buncha bolts.

I installed the T/A performance girdle w/ studs. It's pretty easy and strait forward as well as looking GREAT!!!!!!

Just make sure you get some gasket sealer around the bolts as well, the fluid can actuall seep from the threads.

Make sure you get a low profile one like the one ford racing sells. Dont make the same mistake i did. I bought a moser differential cover and it wasnt mustang specific so it want low profile and was hitting my rear swaybar. Just my .02

Yeah I read you had that problem when I did a search on this topic. I'm probably going to choose between the Trickflow and the Ford Racing one. Thanks for the tip.

if you are only worried about a leak for now buy some rtv and throw a healthy bit over where it leaks.

I'm actually going to do that before I head out of town tomorrow for a little bit. Good tip. I do want to sure up the rear end for the long term though. So I'll be upgrading before long.
