I have a trans-go shift kit in mine. been in there for 2 years no problems. it will shift hard though. as to 3.73's dont waste your time, 4.10's are basicaly minimum for an auto if you want to see any gains.

A shift kit is definetly a good investment. As for the gears thats up to you but personally I went with 4.10s and wish I would have gone with 4.30s.

As far as shift kits go follow this.... SHIFTY BUSINESS
This has proven to be the safest kit/modification to our transmissions, ask around on a few other forums people that have done it love it and never look back.

If you're looking for a quick, cheap mod, I've got one of the B&M electronic shift improver kits on my Bronco, and it's everything they say it is. Took less than 30 mins to install, and that was with me taking my time; all you have to do is splice into 2 wires, run a wire into the cab, and mount a switch. Oh, and they're under $50.

for those that have "done it and never looked back", have they ever tried any others to show that this is far superior to others? |

If you are questioning the integrity of my knowledge on this issue I will say this. I am not a master of transmissions nor do I claim to be, I know what works and has been proven to not fail in this case. When the early versions of the "shift kit" that others made came out they were garbage and fugged up a ton of transmissions. The J-mod has been around longer than the average person on this site has been able to drive, I was giving the advice that real racers have used with success. Most kits are just designed to make the trans shift harder (snapping) which can and will case damage if that is all it does. The J-mod will give you firmer shifts and actually improves the life and overall function by installing better parts rather than just redirecting fluid flow. This is my advice, you can take it or pass it up for whatever option you wish. If you just want harder shifts you can increase the line pressure with most hand held tuners or through a tune, there is no need to even open the transmission. I just can't understand why anyone would want to apply 70's technology to a newer transmission when there are better options. J-Mod, tune, a good trans cooler and a trans temp. gauge and it is set. A stall converter from Circle D and you will have minimal worries well beyond 450+ RWHP . Whichever you choose will be the right choice for you. __________________________ Boomer

Im not doubting you or going against what you say but just as you had said "everyone that does it is happy with it etc" which is true bc every post that comes up about shift kits 90% of people are going nuts about this jmod. Im just curious if they have given anything else a try/chance which is why I asked you if you knew of anyone that has actually tried something else as well. Wasnt trying to be an asshole if thats how it seemed.

Definetly seems like the transgos were a problem in the past, not so sure about now days. I have yet to try the jmod. Ive tried the transgo,bm,and fairbanks. So far out of those 3 the fairbanks has been the best by far maybe one day I will give the jmod a try though. Who knows.
