Ok so i think i am going to settle on the hitech stage II, im going to spend the money there instead of things such as headlights. On hitechs website it says i wont need springs so i wont be doing that, the only thing i am worried about is the ptv. How close are they to hitting? I would rather not shave off any of the valves if possible

If it were me doing a used head swap and if I were installing cams, too, I'd get some hipo valve springs like compcams have and probably check/replace the valve seals if need be.

+1 on the seals and springs.
Depending on the lift, you may need to get some valve spring retainers milled for more clearance to your seals, I got my cams, springs and retainer milling from hi-tech. The seals are easy to do once you have the springs off.

With a stock bottom end, and no boost I have no issues running these cams without springs. My friend has actually been running them HARD now with stock springs that have 150,000miles on them. 6500rpm shift points no problem! If you were going to run boost, or push the RPM past 6500rpm I would be all for doing springs, that or if you feel the stock springs have excessive milage on them. The springs in my example above with 150k on them, I personally would have replaced, but not my car not my money. |

I talked to a guy at a motor part shop today and he said using the stiffer springs in this situation might even do more harm then good. If the springs arent needed they might slam the valves closed to hard and will put more stress on stuff then normal springs, he said not to go overkill,

if you are going to do the PI swap and not do a whole PI engine I would go with the smallest cams you can for PTV clearance and stick with the stock springs

the hitech stage II will work with your stock springs, and you wont have any piston/valve clearance issues, even with non-pi pistons.

Actually they are very close on a NPI motor. I can go into why, but trust me from personal experiance, they are very close, and PTV MUST be checked. That is why we recomend machining the margin down on the vales to gain MORE than addiquite clearance. (You can gain close to .040 clearance by doing so) we do this on all the PI swap cars since it is so easy to do when the heads are off, and we only charge $25 to do it if a customer who has purchased our cams ship us thier valves. Such as I have discussed with Drtbkr.
