Well if you're talking about paying for headers to be installed (assuming that's what LT stood for)... yeah, a lot of places will rape you, because they know a lot of people either can't or won't do it themselves. And ask anyone who has ever installed headers on a V6 or larger engine and you'll get one answer... it is a bitch of a job. The x-pipe is simply a remove the old and bolt up the new one kind of job, very simple and not time consuming. Not the case for headers though, sorry. If you really think 500 is too much (and I don't know what labor rates are at where you live) just go to a dealer and let them give you their quote and then maybe the 500 bucks won't seem such a bad idea. Good luck though.

its a huge job even with shorties, never mind long tubes, i did my own i know, if that machanic can do it in 7 hours you're still getting a good deal. I broke 3 header bolts getting my old headers off.

Yeah, if you do wind up doing it yourself the two most important tools you're gonna need are:

1. Helper Buddy (preferably a strong one too)

2. Swear Jar

hell yeah but although its time consuming you should put them on yourself, it lets you get to know your engine so next time you won't even think twice about high prices you'll just do it. + it gives you a sense of satisfaction building your car up yourself i mean

Do it yourself, it not that hard it just take a while if you never done it before, just make sure you spray wd-40 on all the bolts the night before... soak them pretty good.. next day go to work, its not that hard, just time consu'.

I did the install with a buddy in his garage. A lift would have been easier but you can get by just fine with axle stands. Get the car up as high as you can. Installing them on a 4V is a PITA due to limited clearances but it only took about a 1/2 day on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Very much worth the time. The only thing the stealership has ever done on my car is an oil change.

I think you should have the shop install the LT's for you and do the rest yourself. You'll save a ton of money. I really haven't ever worked on any car before and me and a friend put in a cat-back system and an x-pipe in in about 4-6 hours. The only trouble I had was fitting the pieces in place. Don't try the LT's by yourself, it's too frickin hard.
