read the topped post - do not post in this section!

try searching for your question first. there are a ton of posts about shorty's and long tube inclding the +/- of each. I would save the coin for other improvements personally as you don't gain much from headers early in the game.

shorty headers cost the least to buy and install and yield the least amount of HP
Midlength headers are a little more expensive and cheaper to install than long tubes
and yield more HP than shorties.they also require a different midpipe like the longtubes do
Longtubes are a little more expensive to buy and install too.Bassani makes a set of midlengths and a modular midpipe that you can use with either their midlengths or longtubes and you can runem with or without cats.installing headers on a 4.6 are a PITA
to do.there are much better things to do before the headers, like a set of 3.73-4.10s,CAI,catback exhaust,MAF,70-75mm TB and adapter.

Well everyone is on a budget, just some are bigger than others. j/k.

These are the cheapest I've seen ... Stage 3 Motorsports 1996-04 Mustang GT Pacesetter Long Tube Headers & X Pipe ... For $370 it comes with

If you want to wait for a month or so I'll let you know how they are. I just ordered them. I'm going to put cat's in the x pipe. $180 for 2 cats at AM.Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

a little warning about those cat's, the clamps could be tricky. Unlike standard U-clamps that are merely tighten as much as you can taking turns on each side, with these you need to pay attention to the spacer within the open section of the clamp.

Be VERY sure BEFORE tightening the clamp that the spacer is NOT resting within the threaded section of the bolt. You want it on the ribbed section so it is clear to shift WITHOUT breaking. No big deal if it breaks. just loosen it up then slide it in place. there will be enough left to hold itself in place. It is there to ensure you get an even uniform clamp around the pipe.

Also be sure to cut enough off the xpipe so that when inserted it does NOT extend past the flare of the cat. nothing is inside to stop the pipe from going all the way in and smashing against the insides of this thing doing damage and affecting the sound. The instructions indicate about 9.5"s should be removed.

The have an awesome finish and fit well. They even come with their own O2 sensor bung...meaning you can use them for a wideband o2 sensor in the future.

good luck

Thanks for the info Sonic.

I'll probably dig my car out of the garage to install these and my 373's in late Feb or early March. After that I gotta rip the seats out and reupholster them.

She gotta be ready for April. Weather permitting that is.
