PI Head Swap and Transmission Swap

hey everyone here at MM.

i was thinking of swapping in new PI Heads n such since i found a PI Head Swap Kit for 96-98Mustangs for $1350 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-...spagenameZWDVW and i wanted some inputs on what you guys thought about that. it says it adds roughly 60+ r-whp n such. i've also looked at other forums about doing a PI Head Swap for 96-98 mustangs and if anyone is interested i could post that link. also if i was to do a swap, and i was interested in getting it supercharged, would i get one for my 96 mustang or for the new PI model which would be like '00 model.

and then i was hoping to do a transmission swap soon since i got lucky getting my mustang really cheap, in excellent condition, with only one problem, it being an automatic. would anyone know an estimate price for this? my dad is a mechanic and i dont see him very much so i havent gotten a chance to ask him about it and being that, dont include labor price, just for the parts n such to do so thanks.

really appreciate everyone here at MM for their time and answers for many questions i have had in the past few weeks thanks

so any thoughts about this? and i was looking around google and for a transmission swap would be roughly 1200-1400(without labor, which works for me), roughly the same price as the PI Head Swap Kit. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/25.shtml but umm if you were to choose one of the two, which would you do? 60+ r-whp n then do the transmission later or transmission first then the heads? and i just want some honest opinions thanks

That will only net you around 45-50 rwhp untuned, as for the trans swap you'll need a harness, manual trans ecu (not nessesary but helpfully), flywheel, clutch/pp assembly , trans mount, driveshaft , pedal assembly and time and patience ;p. Good luck....

awesome thanks for the information but if you were in my situation... which would you do? they both aren't really a weekend thing so patience n time is required and are roughly in the same price range. for the PI-Head swap, of course i will be getting a tuner for it. but yeah one or the other of these will be my next goal towards my 1996 Mustang GT. thanks opinions appreciated and the other will be awhile before i do it.

i would do the pi swap. its cheaper. and easier. get a nice tune, and you can see gains upwards of 60hp depending on your mods.

What year did the PI heads come out in? Reason I ask is that I totaled my 97. I am looking at a 99 thats really close to what i had in mine although i only had 95266 Kilometers and this 99 has 110,000 k`s Anyways was just wondering if this would have PI heads or not.

Thanks
Malcom

That seems like a lot of money for the kit.. im sure if you pieced it together, you could do it for ALOT cheaper.

4.6 PI heads and 5.4 PI heads are exactly the same from a performance point of view. There are a few things different but it doesnt affect performance.
