Ford Racing gears aren't bad. There's lots of different brands out there. Keep in mind thats its several hundred dollars to install at most shops.

Ford Racing is considered good around here as far as gears go. DIY FTW

OK, cool. I know how to install gears, so I can keep the costs relatively low. Thanks a million guys.

i am also new to the site, i am looking at doing performance upgrades to my '00 gt conv. right now i have a couple boltons, bbk air intake, throttle body, short shifter, stage 3 zoom clutch, ceramic brake pads, wheel spacers, catback loudmouth exhaust, and performance lowering springs. i have been getting the vibe that my next step should be a tuner and gears. i am just wondering on a scal from 1 to 10 how hard you would rate the intallation of the gears. i do all of my work myself in my garage and i have a lot of tools, but i am still worried i would screw up the rear end if i did the gearing.
P.S. i have already had to take one axle out due to a seazed up stud so i am somewhat familiar with the rearend.
thanks again

at far as i know, in stangs 99+ u have to use the tuner to adjust the speedo. as for installing ur own gears, personally I wouldnt do it since i dont have the proper measuring stuff, (if ur wondering what that stuff is, just youtube xtreme 4x4 from SpikeTv, they do gear installs on almost every episode). but if you have/can borrow that stuff, go for it.

70mm throttle body with a half inch spacer. Headers are not the most easy job. But are well worth it. Get some 3:73's. Maybe some under drive pulleys.

Honestly BEFORE you do any of that. You need to decide what you want out of the car first and foremost. Don't spend a dime before you know that because you could just be wasting your time and money. Is it going to be a drag car, autocross, full street car, street/strip car, street/autocross car etc etc. All three of those require COMPLETELY different type of parts. So let us know that decision before we can actually start to help. I'd say gears are probably the only thing that could be universal lol, unless your the type that all you do is jump on the highway and cruise 500 miles for fun then go home in that case i have a set of stock fox 2.73 gears if you want em! Lol but in all seriousness! Make that decision then go from there.

Yes! Listen to this man! I spent all my time and money focusing on going fast, but its useless if you can't put it down! If i could do it again i'd get subframe connectors, lowering springs and upper and lower control arms as my first mods.. they make a world of difference! You feel it way more than you'll feel 20 hp

I'd go for brake and suspension upgrades. If you have a V8, it should be plenty of power stock. I have strut tower supports, I'm getting lowering coils, and I'm going to get sway bar kit and shocks soon. I also advise brake upgrades because if I'm going at a good speed and start hitting my brakes, they heat up and it gets hard to brake.
