98 GT oil leak from the oil filter adapter???Has anyone had oil leak out of the part that the oil filter screws into on the 4.6 ??? I cleaned it up, looked at it and started the car up, there is oil coming out of a little pin hole from the oil filter adapter. Do I just replace the oil filter adapter? any recommendations on where to buy the part? Any advice would be great! thanks! |

I just got the car and I haven't even had time to really look at it, but its leaking from the oil filter adapter. Have you had this happen to you?

Mine was dripping also so i got a new gasket for it before the oil change...when i pulled the filter i saw there was a bolt holding the adapter on...it had come lose. Pull your filter and snug the adapter thingy back down and that should take care of it. I didn't even need the new gasket.

Oh, my bad, its not leaking from the oil filter adapter like I first said, its leaking from the oil cooler, the part closest to the oil filter.

The 98 GT came standard with the factory oil cooler, by the way.

I had a leak which was very similar to the one you describe on my 98 Cobra. Although a new adapter soved the problem I'll bet it just needed new gaskets. But I no longer have the problem. I let the dealership take care of the problem and it cost me $425.
