96 GT Cooling System Upgrade ?'s

I am looking to upgrade the cooling system on my 96 GT. I am going to buy a Fluidyne radiator, but I was told that there was a factory upgrade from 96 to the 97 fan system. Anyone know what the differance is, and if it's worth changing with the new radiator? If so, does a 97 Fluidyne part # need to be ordered since it is differant for the 96? I assume the differance is in the fans, and not how it mounts. Thanks

You are in luck.........

I just bought the SA Design "How to Build Max Performance 4.6-Liter Ford Engine" book. It covers that topic..........And I quote.."The '97-up Mustang cooling fan and shroud flows well, and does a good job of cooling in traffic. '96 Mustangs can be upgraded with the '97-up radiator, fan and shroud for improved cooling".

I plan on going the route you did with the flowdyne, but using the upgraded fan and shroud.

BTW where did you buy your radiator?? I was looking at Summit but they are just a tad $$.

Oops sorry didn't answer question, no kit!! Aslo you can use an electric fan set-up from a lightening pickup, book says it'll give 5 to 7 rwhp more.

Thanks for the info. I found a seller on Ebay selling the radiators for $383.00 which includes shipping. The sellers user name is raceoptions. That is the best price I have found so far. I'm not sure what the Lightning fan would do that would give the extra HP. It seems both fans would draw about the same amps. I think I'll look for a 97 setup and order the radiator for a 97 unless anyone else has any other ideas. Thanks.

The 97-98 radiator is far better than the 96's: and that is the reason why there was a recall on many 96 Cobra models due to issues with overheating in those 96 models, uprading them to the much improved 97 OE radiator.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if the wiring harness is the same for the 97 fan as for the 96?
