the rods are your weakest part of the 5.4 with the longer stroke and the crapp ass ford bearings dont hold up well. thats why most if you goto mustang boards recommend atleast forged rods and hard bearings from summit. Because the tin on stock bearings i guess starts to float and is to soft for the longer stroke and thats what causes most rods to fail. the other half of rod failers is the rod itself snapping. creating an air conditioned block. bearings on summit i dont know price but forged rods are on ebay from TMD what most buy for 320 with ARP 2000 bolts then you have a solid enough motor for NA an low boost with little to no detonation on stock pistons.


Saleen a 5.4 or 4.6? idk kinda just getting into the mustang thing before this i had 3 Lincoln Mark VIIIs 4.6DOHC

So let me get this Straight your giving me info on mustangs but dont know if a saleen has a 4.6 or 5.4.

And a Stock Motor Is Fine for Boost.

no i dont know everything about mustangs but i have read extensively on the 5.4L swap on mustangboards sticky article with over 200 pages of info. and im passing on info i have found there about the weaknesses of the 5.4L im not trying to condone you boostin the engine just words of advice as to what i would do after reading all the info i have on those boards from saleen330 r3dn3ck and others. im not trying to get in a word match with anyone just passing on info i have read from several people confirming it. go there read the 213 or 214 pages of info youll have a whole new understanding of the swap you have done.

I Did My Swap In my Driveway By Myself.I think i have an understanding of the swap i have done.

I was not trying to be a dick about the saleen engine comment more or less joke pokeing fun at you.

But yes my buddies 4.6 M90 Supercharged Saleen is been running 12 psi over a year now with no issues.Im sure it all depends on driving style also.The less you beat the hell out of it the longer it will last.

there are mixed "facts" about the 5.4 and their capabilites etc. each person will have a different idea or a story to tell about them. when you break it down, it comes down to set up and tune just like any other set up.

ok yeah i guess what i was trying to say is from what ive read is the extra length of the stroke of the 5.4 puts alot more stress on the rods/rod bearings and that is know to be about the only ultimate weakness of the 5.4L i wasnt saying you dont understand about the swap. just saying what ive heard of any 5.4L fatality was caused mainly by rods or rod bearings letting loose. not trying to be a smartass just giving advice from the information/rumors ive heard/read about the 5.4l. later man

Yea the Rods are shit.I am thinking about taking my Locked up 5.4 out of my truck and putting it on a stand and slowly take it apart and go threw it and put it back together with fordged parts.Because u never know at 10psi, mine could let loose.

Yeah wish i had extra 5.4 sitten round ;x im still trying to find even a blown one cause around here for 60k miles plus they want 1200-1500 bucks.. and i cant justify that for more tq. cant even find a deal locked up motor with all timeing components and ect.

what ied like to do is get a partially complete engine and just replace the rods forged with hard bearings and run all motor so no need for more forged parts.

I got mine Complete Complete With Acc. Hoses, Ecu, wires, Etc etc. From top to bottom for 1400 with 40k miles on it. From a company out of alabama that sells motors on ebay. Check them out...
