5.4 Swap cams
I was pricing out XE278s for my 5.4L swap i knew ied need new Behive springs but do i honestly need the titanium retainers they call for that are $250?? outrageous for a cam change. Im gona be using PI heads/Intake with adapter plates on the swap.
but i just thought 1000+ is a little much for a cam change. specialy when all the engine "Full engine from intake to oil pan" cost me was 158 bucks and the crank/pistons/rods/cylinder walls are in great condition for it being a 97 idk miles but maybe if you take the thickness of the ridge in the cylinder wall from piston wear its maybe a total of both sides of how the rings would see it. so a fingersnail worth more bore not to bad compared to a 3500hr mitsibishi diesel for a newholland skid steer that probaly had 1/16 to 1/8 worth of extra bore. that we rebuilt last month

You don't want Titainum for the street. They are loud and more suitable for the track.
Just get plain steel retainers. |

You dont need the titanium retainers. Chances are what youre reading says they are recommended -- not required.
If you do want to upgrade the retainers though you can get a set of steel comp ones for right around 45-50. |

lol was a you pullit lot at an auto salvage only 5.4 in the whole place ;> and i think what killed it was a timing chain slip. im thinking about a re-ring cause the cylinderwalls are prestine you barely feel the ridge on top. 4.6 pan/oil pickup new timing components. PI intake w/adapters and PI heads new hard rod bearings. and a severe cleanup job since this guy let oil leak everywhere maybe give it a caustic bath before reassembly. but put all that on it drop it in and buy all the parts for a .020 bore build with wild cam's and debating on a nice low CR for boost or High CR for all motor app ;> and thanks for all the comments guys
