new guy with an interior lighting question!!!

hello there,
I am new to this site and have been reading multiple threads and am hoping you guys can help me out: I am attempting to install LED lighting in my interior, however being that I am a bit of a perfectionist I want the LED bars to automatically turn on when I activate the interior dome light (via the lighting nob), or whenever a door gets opened. I guess now that I think about it, I would like the LED lights to turn on whenever the dome light goes on! However, I have no clue where I can splice in the (+) wire and (-) wire to accomplish this... I'm assuming it has to be the wire that routes to the dome light, but i would certainly prefer to splice the wires closer to the floor panels of the car. Do you have any advice on how I can accomplish this task?

Also my pony car is a 1998 3.8L v6 coupe.

Thank you in advance!

well thanks for all the speedy replies everyone. Yet non the less I got the kit installed anyways. If anyone else is looking to do this to their pony, I located the necessary wires in my passenger side A pillar. solid black wire was the negative and the black wire with a blue tracer was the positive. yep.

actually its a damn cheap mod. the lights come from LEDGLOW - LED UnderGlow Kits & Led Interior Lights and is a 7 color LED interior lighting kit. To my surprise the kit was 40 bucks! and shipping was 5 or 10, i cant remember. I custom did the gauge work too, thanks to superbrightleds.com and their WLEDX 360 degree wedge base bulbs, which replace the stock 168 sized buls (all plug and play baby!). that cost bout 70. as stated before the kit is wired to go on whenever the dome light activates. works great, almost OEM looking IMO. I just didnt want it to look rice-y, but yet have a cool custom look ya know?

well, im thinkin that its startn to hit the "modern muscle" stream now cuz if u look at Ford and Chevy, they are starting to add that "ambient" kit as an option for their vehicles. Then again the amount of ppl who buy it and like it is another story. But, i think if its done right, and is not pulsin or flashin in 70 million different damn patterns it can look nice. and like i said, the only way I'd have it is if it worked as it does now, every time the dome light goes on (doors open and car door lock and such).

and thanks for all the comps. CAI and exhaust were just ordered from American Muscle! can't wait for them to get here!

sad to say i went with the bolt up kit from pypes. YAYAYAYA ik ik. not the greatest, but its ok folks! thats the bueaty of metal, it can always be cut! thus the plan is to go with divorced duals down the road, and will eventually replace those mufflers with flowmaster 40's? havn't thought that far ahead yet. lol.

plus, where would be the fun in a car project that isn't drawn out and tinker-ish? since after all, half the fun is doin it urself. the other half, well, driving it of course! Duh!! lol

I definitely like it... does it just turn on and off, or does it fade on and off?(i would love it to fade...)

You could say its ricey...but then again so are the stock hood scoops because they arent functional. I wouldnt do interior lighting myself cuz i dont want people seeing me as I drive. and I'd think it would get distracting at night. I turn my gauge lights down as far as I can still see them at night. but that's just me...It DOES look cool though. adds that customized look.

well the kit itself can fade and such while its on, but what I have is it just paused on red, so that whenever I open the door it pops on at the same speed the dome does, and they also can be kicked on manually with the interior light pull nob (for my 98 at least) when u turn it all the way to the left. so nobody would ever see ya. lol.
