i do have one question, what does it mean to be "square" in terms of the 4.6 and 5.4?
Rule of thumb Square Motors Last Longer and are harder to blow up.
A 5.4 is not a square motor but the 4.6 is.

What makes it a "Square" Motor is that the Bore&Stroke are almost identical.

For Example the 5.4 is (3.55x4.16)Vs 4.6 a (3.55x3.54)

i think the 5.4 has more tq at lower rpms. i think thats the main advantage.

on the subject of torque, how much torque approximately does it take to lift the front end off the ground?

Don't think about how much you need but rather what needs to be done to get it to the wheels with out breaking loose. You can have all the Tq in the world and it won't mean anything with out the right supporting suspension mods.

well then perhaps someone can tell me some steps that could lead me to lifting off the ground and having my nose in the air. cuz that is effing badass. anywhere around 2-4ft would be good

Ask around in the drag section would be my suggestion. I'm sure those guys that spend alot of time at the track would know a good setup and the approximate amount of Tq to accomplish what you want

5.4 is pretty much a stroked 4.6 with a taller deck height.

What that means is when you stroke a 4.6 some of the piston comes out of the skirt which some say is less reliable and harder on parts.

The 5.4 has longer skirts which means that longer stroke has more of the piston inside the skirt which some say makes it more reliable and easier on parts at that stroke.

These are rough generalizations because I could start a whole war on that subject. Basically I could stroke my 4.6 and have almost the same torque as a 5.4. The 5.4 is just a taller engine pretty much. 2v 5.4 might blow away what a 2v 4.6 could do, but a built 4v 4.6 would be right on its ass until you get way into boost where the cubes matter more.

Another thing to consider is that the 5.4 is Iron, and not many people can afford the aluminum 5.4 so the power may be a bit better but weight also matters and the iron 5.4 is heavier than the aluminum 4.6.

I would agree that the 4.6 would be more behind when you build a 4v 5.4 which is a lot harder due to clearance and intake selection however.

Either way you will love the 5.4 coming from your npi 2v 4.6 I know that for sure. When I drove your car I had a hard time spinning the tires in the rain. Your 5.4 wont be nearly as forgiving.
