Tire widith 96 cobra

Will 275/40/17's fit on stock cobra rims? Will I have issue's if I keep the 245/45/17's up front. I know nothing about tires I have always just bought the size for my car. But I need some drag radials and can get a ok deal on some nitto drag radials.

Yes you can bro, but its not recommendable, your stock wheels are 17x8 with a 245/45/17 tire, I suggest 255 but the 275 will fit.

Thanks for the info. It looks like the don't make a 255 in Nitto drag radials. I'm thinking about just going with the nt555's and not the nt555r's so I can get the 255's. I'm just looking to get some better traction I spin so bad with my 4:10's on these goodyear eagle zr45's it is crazy.

I was getting ready to order the 255 nt555 then I read some stuff about them not hooking that will and most recommend the nt555r (Drag radial's). They only make them in the 275 though and there also a extra 80 bucks for a pair and I read that the drag radials don't last long at all either. I just want to get some traction and knock this 60 foot time down. And body every used both the NT555 and NT555r's that can give me a comparison?

I think that there's no way that you can get traction and good thread wear imo..

This is true.

You read there is poor tread wear on the Nitto 555R... those are probably the best drag radial in terms of a balance of treadwear and traction as far as drag radials are concerned. They'll last a hell of a lot longer than Mickey Thompson Drag Radials. My M/T lasted two years lightly daily driving and the track. Still hook extremely well though.

I really wouldn't recommend a 275 on that 8" wheel. If you're going to do something you might as well do it right the first time. Take this opportunity to set aside money to pick up aftermarket wheels... even if they're eBay Cobra R wheels. You can get a chrome set or even get the traditional silver ones dirt cheap as a set of four 17x9" wheels. Hell, there are sets offering a 10" rear and 9" front if you want to stagger.

HOWEVER:

I purchased some used 1995 Cobra wheels (polished aluminum) from a guy and he had Nitto 555R mounted on them. They fit absolutely fine. I've read people saying Nitto run "small" but I have no experience with that. All I know is I physically had a set of Cobra wheels with 555R mounted on them with no problems at all.

I'm not sure if 94-95 had a larger wheel than 96-98 but I was pretty shocked the Nitto DR fit on the wheel as if they were a 255.
