Anyone put a Tremec 3650 in a 96-98 GT ?
I have been searching for some answers to a couple questions I have. I got a killer deal on a complete PI engine & TR3650 pkg. I am hearing the TR3650 trans mount holes are about 1" farther back on the crossmember. I don't want to hack & weld. Will a crossmember from an 03-04 gt bolt in place of the original one? My T-45 is a mechanical speedo, the TR3650 is electronic. How can I make this work? Is there some sort of conversion kit/ converter box? I hope to figure this sh** out, the swap is scheduled for 6/20. Thanks for any help.

You can try asking in the '99-'04 section. There's a little more traffic there, plus you are asking about a motor and tranny from their years. They wont mind.

easy fix is to pick up the motor if it is in fact a great deal, bolt your t45 to it and sell the Tremec for 600 and get some bolt on's for the new PI motor.

It will Fit.And there is a Way to convert it,94-04 chassis wise are the same.

Its Realy Not that hard.you can Swap out the Extention housing to use yours to solve your speedo issue other then that its pretty easy to swap over.Never done it but i have read about it, Cant be to hard i just did a 5 speed to auto swap and it was Easy...

I have a t3650 in my '98 gt. The crossmember needs moved back a little, that was it, and you need an extended range speedcal to make the electronic speedo work.

I bought mine from Dallas mustangs. American muscle sells them too. Just make sure you get the "Extended Range", not the original version.

OR you can spend NOTHING pull your tail housing off with like 8 bolts. pull off one snap ring. pull off your old plastic gear from your t-45. then install it on new one. its FREE. takes prolly 30 minites to swap both and put back together...... if you need a write up ill make one. it can even be done with tranny still in car..

The trans cross brace will need to be modified but it will go in. And like they said, the SpeedCal will work. (But not very well, lol.)

75% good 25% bad responses on the SpeedCal and about 1/3 of the people try to return them. (I Have a friend that works for THR.)
3650 is a better trans than the T45 no matter your personal experience. the parts are cheaper, changeable bell housing and it can be built better for cheaper. If someone is dead set on building up a T45 they better do it soon since Tremec doesn't make parts for them anymore and VERY soon, the first run production parts are going to be replaced with Japanese parts.

I think both the t45 and the t3650 are trash. I don't think either one is particularly better than the other, as far as durability goes. The design of the 3650 might be better, but it's full of problems as well. Just my opinion.

and as far as t-45 vs the other. tear the t-45 down and look at the parts. agiant the t-5 that came out of my 3.8 v6. the t-45 is tinny brittle compared to even the t-5 if you have the money. swap a t-56 in there not that hard
