I have a wierd noise also its the timing chain slop. When it idles it nicks the cover. notorious on our cars apparently.

So it didnt make that before? and it just happened after the wires? This could be the biggest problem,a piston hitting use an stethoscope put it on the valve covers if you hear it louder your problem is inside. Any mods to the car?

i did that and it sounded normal no piston knocking
and to antfo89... the ticking noise is only during acceleration with the foot on the gas... if i take my foot off the ticking goes away... if i stop the car and let it idle it does not tick

Big daddys got the idea my car does it too after had taken the exhaust off for a throwout bearing repair im guessing the gasket on one side doesnt like to be used twice but i know thats where my tick comes from also could be from other coupling points of the exhaust or a small rusted through hole and at worst case scenario or however ya spell it. it could be the manifold gaskets bad on one side

Thanks lol^ that's what I tried to say, mine broke from the manifold where it connects to the y pipe and I just had it welded and worked.

OP try moving the manifold from under the car with your hand if it moves then its starting to break, they shouldnt move.

Don't say it isn't an exhaust leak until you get under and check. never assume until you know and never rule out possibilities. my car has a small exhaust leak on the drivers side and it can only be heard under acceleration. You cant hear mine at idle either just so ya know.

ok i def. agree with you on dont assume anything especially with cars... one symptom could be a million different things... so i got under the car and checked for the exhaust leak and none were found... the other thing i checked was the spark plugs and the ring around the ceramic is funny colored... i just put the plugs in and took it for a test drive... they are like a yellowish color just on the ring thanks for all your replies on the subject this is driving me crazy.

Sounds to me either like an exhaust leak or the oh so glorious head tick

To check for a Exhaust leak Start up the car have some one hold a baled up rag over the tail pipes and if any exhaust leak you will hear it while laying under the car,Do a cold start so once you hear the leak you have time to put your hand on the pipe and feel where its coming from befor it gets to hot.
