differential question.
A guy here on craigslist has a built rear end for sale. he says it has a " spooling differentail" . I am not sure what that means. When I ask is it a limited slip or lokr he just keeps saying it's a " spooling". WTF DOES THAT MEAN???
It's got 31 spline axles/ differential and 4.10 gears with a stud kit and girdle.

A spool limits differential rotation to exactly zero. A spool consists of a pinion & ring gear only, the center is solid, the axle is one piece. A mini-spool is similar, replacing the usual differential center with a solid piece, retaining the factory axles. A spool is not a differential at all, but is used to achieve a similar effect to an LSD on some street and race cars.
Differential Full & Mini Spools Spools are a solid link for both axles. Lockers are ratchet style with teeth that still allow corner turning on the street without damage to axles. Lockers are about the next best thing to a spool. |

That or a true Limited slip. A true limited slip is better for cornering than traction lock. The traction lock does not have the smooth transfers for cornering that the limited slip does. Its a small difference, but it is there.
