engine smokes at idle

i am new to these forums so i hope im doing this right but i have a few questions. ive got a 96 gt my uncle built the car for me the motor is new crate from ford. for some resone it wasnt assembled,my uncle is a pro-stock engine builder (dragg cars) anyways it only has 5000 miles on it it has plenty of power and runs fine. ok 1st question the lifters rattle for about 10-30 secs after start up then stops until the next day.since there isnt any lash adjustment cant figure it out.2nd question im 99% sure it is a newer pi.because the runner for wate on the intake is aluminum not composate?and is there any other way to tell, also is there any differance in the blocks at all?because i was wanting to add a new set of cams i think they are from old motor and if thats the case the valve springs are the old ones also wich if i was to guess thats where it all starts sorry little ahead of myself, it also smokes if you let it idle for a few mins, but only for a second when you take off blue smoke but stops even at wot. no smoke i think it might be the valve springs not closing the valve all the way thus having play in valve train causing liffters to rattle also seems to take a min to rev up over 4000 rpm it drags a little.this is somthing i could fix myself but i was told that pi motors have differant blocks and npi motors wont have enough clearence any help will be great thanks.

If the first runner closest to the front of the car goes to the left, it's a NPI intake. If the first runner goes to the right, it's a PI intake. The PI and NPI can both have either plastic or aluminum coolant crossovers.

There is no difference in the npi and pi block, just the dish size on the pistons.

Your stock valve springs are good for most stage 1 cams, but stage 2 will require an upgrade.

Good luck with the smoke.
