Wheel Spacers

I bought a set of rims recently and havnt been able to sell them

The issue I had with them is that the center hole on the rims is a 1/4" to small so they didnt fit flush up against the hub.

I was looking online today and came across a set of Wheel spacers. They are 1" wide and have all the specs I need. I was going to put 1" wide ones in the back to help out with the 10.5 inch wide tires and maybe 5/8" in the front just to get them to fit.

Any bad things i should know about wheel spacers?

they are hard on the hub/spindle for such a wide tire. What kind of wheels did you buy that wont fit?

The wheels came off a supra. I measured the bolt pattern and it matched but the center cap hole thing was to small.

I tried selling them but I keep getting lowballed and i think it might be more cost efficient just to make them fit

What are the sizes of the wheels you want to mount?

I don't see you running a 1" spacer on a 10.5" wheel (looks like you mis-spoke and said 10.5" tires), unless these wheels are meant to run on an S197. Eiter way, I would NOT run a 1" spacer and do one of two things. Have a machine shoppe enlarge the hole to fit your car OR purchase the correct wheels for your ride.

I am not sure all the off-sets are correct to go from a Supra to your ride. There may be other considerations such as weight or clearance to brakes and such.

Mustangs have hubcentric wheels, so you'll need the spacers to take this into account. Most don't. If the Supra wheels have the right offset, I would have the center holes enlarged at a machine shop.

I have considered getting a machine shop to enlarge the hole a slight amount. Would that hurt the structure of the wheel and cause it to fail or would it not affect the wheel to much.

Also I was able to get the wheels on before (or atleast for the most part) and I didnt have any clearance issues. The only thing that got my slightly worried was the inside end of my tires were getting fairly close to my sway bar. Would a smaller wheel spacer be ok for that?

Also Im sorry but could someone explain what offset it? Im not normally in the rim business so I am not familiar with the terminology.

I don't see enlarging the hole as weakening the wheel so much it would be unsafe. I have never done it, but cannot need much as you have had the wheels installed and are VERY close to fitting properly.

As for rubbing on sway-bar, this is usually not a big issue as you will only rub on full-lock and in a parking lot at low speeds. That being said, it is best NOT to rub on sway bar and a couple ways to address it. The first is steering rack limiters so the wheels just don't turn quite as far. I have a set up front, but will one day remove them and see if I have clearance. Griggs installed them when I went 10"s up front and was prior to fitting those wheels, so a "just in case" kind of thing. The second is a set of thin spacers (thickness depends on amount of rubbing). I don't like this idea nearly as much as rack limiters due to less threads for lug-nuts and increased scrub radius and other clearance issues.

Off-set is the distance from center-line of the wheel to the mounting surface of the flange. Head over to ***HERE*** for good info on how this is measured.

Jazzer... still spaced out

It's perfectly safe to machine out the center hole as long as the machine shop knows what they're doing and keeps it centered correctly. The only time this could be a safety issue is if you have to machine it out into an area where the wheel becomes thinner. Jazzer posted a good description of how offset works.

^ generally...

One needs to take into account the off-set of said wheel and its width. You "may" be able to fit one on an 8" wheel out back, but personally, think this is MUCH too wide for a spacer.

Wheels are cheap, pick up a set that fits properly.
