Car Is Cutting Out! Help!

I need help with my car. The check engine light never came on and every time i turn on any type of air conditioning or heater whether it defrost or vent, my car will cut out. It doesn't do it while i'm actually driving but if i take it out of gear and coast it nearly kills itself. Letting it idle i can hear it drop rpm's really fast but then it catches itself before it dies. It is a 1998 mustang gt. 4.6 L. five speed.

check your iac valve. sometimes carbon builds up, and starts catching the valve portion ... sometimes it gets caught closed. when coasting, your throttle is closed, so the iac kicks in to keep the engine running. and if it gets caught up closed, your engine will shutoff.

definetly sounds like an iac problem. time to replace it. sometimes you can clean them, but they usually stick again in no time.

Mines doing the same thing, and I have a 98 mustang GT too, 4.6 5 speed, I replaced MAF, New Plugs, new o2 sensors, new TPS, cleaned my IAC, and previous owner put a new intake manifold, old one was cracked, so I have no clue wat I should try next

I would try looking for a vacuum leak in the heater control if it has one, I could look at my 97 cobra later, also check and see if the battery power drops when the problem occors, something in the charging system may be messed up. the air conditioner is turned on in defrost but not in vent so you might be able to rule out the compresser, my 97 has the original battery in it and it couldnt start my boat but it starts my car just fine for now and turning on my ac does not kill my engine but it does make my supercharger sound a little sick. use a digital vom and check charging system.
