No offense but what power? He's making less than 200rwhp. Do a PI swap with cams if you can afford it and then go suspension.

Less than 200rwHP? I'm pretty sure i'm easily @ 200+ rwHP. A stock automatic '98GT definitely less than 200rwhp around 180rwhp.

Do the swap yourself and you'll have enough left over for the gears or exhaust. There are write ups in the forum sticky that will walk you through the swap.

With a 17% drivetrain loss you're looking at roughly 35-40hp lost from the base 225hp on a 96-98 Mustang GT. UDPs and a CAI might net you 10 rwhp if you're lucky. Or you could swap over to the PI heads and be at 230rwhp plus the hp picked up from the UDPs and CAI. Hate me if you want but the numbers don't lie and for a few hundred bucks that's a hell of a deal.

200ish rwhp is about right. i would look into the pi swap. if you on a budget, atleast to the intake manifold and pi cams. you could do the headers and mid pipe as well with the left over $$$.

Sorry Mach Boy, you must have missed when i said what mods i had. I agree a stock 98 GT would be less than 200rwhp. I have a CAI, catback flowmaster exhaust, ford racing pullies, and an SCT tuner set @ 93 octane performance. Also all the fluids in my car are Royal Purple which gives a few (pretty much meaning less) HP.

The oil will add nothing measureable so don't even mention it or people will laugh in your face and ask if you have any stickers that add HP. If the UDPs, CAI, and catback added 15rwhp I'd be extremely surprised. The tune will add a few as well, but is it a canned tune or was it dyno/track tuned? Whatever that's not the point. The point is if you get the PI swap you're picking up 40hp. And with your weight advantage you will be able to hang with a lot of the turbo 4 bangers out there as well as the PI GTs.

its not uncommon for npi cars to be get 200ish rwhp with minor mods.

Right I'm not stating that. It is likely that he is right around 200. Not much above or below. He still doesn't have a high flow midpipe which would be the biggest gain as far as bolt ons go. But a PI swap is the best thing he could do for minimal cash without doing nitrous.

Being very ungenerous and taking 20% off stock HP id only need 250hp to get 200rwhp. So seeing as before i even got my tuner i was keeping up with an stock '04 GT (260hp) makes me think i was a little closer to the 200rwhp then since '04 GTs make 208 rwhp. I also had another person in my car and the '04 was just the driver.

As for my next mod i think PI swap is set in stone, after that comes the x-pipe/LT headers.

I've been hearing the only major difference between PI and NPI is largely the CAMs. What would the difference be if i did the full PI swap vs some good comp CAMs?

Most of the power gained from the pi swap comes from the cams and intake. The advantage to adding the heads comes in the higher compression ratio from the different head size.

how much gain did you notice after the under drive pulleys? im in a very similar spot, just got my 96GT yesterday and am already looking for suggestions for more power. its totally stock right now. sorry im invading your thread but this is exactly what im trying to figure out. i was considering the motor swap to a 351W but id rather just do it this way and save a little blood. let me know how any of these worked out for you and what you would reccomend after doing all this because im anxious to get started on this, thanks man.
