Advice on next mod
Whats up guys, i'm having a little difficulty deciding what my next mod should be. I have a '98 GT running all royal purple fluids with these current mods: ford racing pullies, CAI, Flowmaster cat back exhaust, and SCT tuner. Gears are on my list of things to do but I was thinking of either Long tube headers/X-pipe to finish off my exhaust or some performance cams/possibly complete PI swap. I am looking to spend around 1k-1.5k or less but want to get the best bang(HP) for my buck. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks |

Welcome to MM. The best bang for the buck would be a nitrous kit.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah although a nitrous kit would be nice, i don't want a nitrous kit. Looking for some constant HP

Well i want to add HP, and more sound would be sweet... so i'm pretty much just trying to figure out what to do FIRST. I know headers/xpipe will gain a little bit of HP and improve sound a lot, and cams would give a lot of HP and possibly some sound. I will eventually do it all, but i want to do the most effective/practical things first based on what mods i have currently.

I'm not planning on doing this till spring but if you're still selling them at the time ill keep you in mind. But there might be a slight problem... i hear that finding long tubes that fit is hard for an auto transmission (yes i know auto is lol, but its my first car).

i would look into the PI swap if i were you. with the choices that you gave us that def would be the biggest bang for your book. i bet you can find it for the amount of money your looking to spend, maybe less.

+1 on Pi swap, you can find kits for sale and they would be below 1k i'm pretty sure. Also that way when you get the long tubes you wont need to buy them again, also if it's well below your budget then you may have some extra cash to put in some comp cams and you will see some nice HP improvements... check out the classifieds in this forum, i think they have a pi swap kit...

I did my pi swap for under 500. I did the work myself though and I found some really good deals. Look on craigslist.

Sounds like the PI swap is winning. I was planning on putting some better cams in the swap instead of stock. Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have someone put it in for me?

if its manual get a aftermarket shifter, and some suspension work, all that power u want is worthless if you cant stick it to tha ground.
