Headlight bulbs

I'm buying new headlights for my car soon. Which is better the Sylvania Ultra's or the Phillips x-treme brights? Wanted to do HID, but was told it was illegal... Still thinking about doing HID fog lights, but not sure... Any suggestions?

i ran sylvania silverstars in my old saturn. theyre street legal and noticeably brighter than stock. they are not the blue-ish tint of some hid's - just a pure crisp white. if you want something blue check out the luminics pure white bulbs. theyre not street legal if i recall correctly, and they dont put out a brighter light than the silverstars. just bluer. the only problem ive heard about the silverstars was that they burn out faster than a standard bulb. (never had it happen to me though) i have no experience with the philips bulbs. however, no regular bulb is going to put out the brightness of a real hid setup.

yeah i'm looking for the "crisp white" look.. Sylvania said that the Ultra's last longer than the others, but i'm still trying to decide...

no experience with the new ultras, but i think im going with them for my headlights and foglights once i finish up some other things on my car. if i were you id go with an HID setup anyway (cash permitting). as long as you dont pick something like the 12k deep blue color lights , and you aim them properly it shouldnt be a big deal to any police in the area. there are mercedes and bmws and stuff that roll around with stock 6k-ish HIDs anyway.

yeah but what i'm worried about is that the "stock" mercedes and beamers are projector headlights not reflector lights..

I asked the city cops tonight if HID's were illegal with reflector lights and they said they hadn't heard anything about that being illegal, but they didn't know what HID's were either... I'll try and ask the state troopers tomorrow and see what they say..

I'm running the Phillips in mine, and they've treated me pretty nicely, nice clean white light, and bright too.

Though I'm running H3 bulbs with my projectors so you might have different luck.

I talked to the State Troopers today. They said that that Blue lights were illegal to have. They don't care if they are HID's with reflector lenses. So I'm going to order them today

michigan just has a generic "all lighting modifications are illegal" section. its up to the city and cop you get. in my area, most of the cops just give me a thumbs up about my loud exhaust, tint, stereo, etc. probably because half of them have modded cars and trucks as well.

sorry to bump this, but i just ordered the luminics ultra white headlight and foglight kit from stangmods.com:
Lumincs Ultra White Headlight/Foglight Package Deal
i know theyre not going to be all that bright or whatever, but they wont be yellow like the stock lights, which is what i really wanted. and the package is pretty much the price of one set of silverstars. just a heads up.
